The University of Malawi was founded in 1964 - a few months after the country's independence.

The educational institution consists of five colleges:

Bund College, Lilongwa. Here students can get a bachelor, master or doctorate in agriculture. Located 35 km from the capital.
Chancellor's College, Zomba - University’s largest college, consisting of five faculties
Medical College. In order to become a student at a medical college, you need to take one-year courses. The school works closely with the Medical School of the University of St Andrews in Scotland.
College of Nursing, Lilongwa. College graduates are nurses and midwives.
Polytechnic Institute of Malawi offers 15 departments with various specialties in the technical industry.
