The University of Malawi was founded in 1964 - a few months after the country's independence.
The educational institution consists of five colleges:
- Bund College, Lilongwa. Here students can get a bachelor, master or doctorate in agriculture. Located 35 km from the capital.
- Chancellor's College, Zomba - University’s largest college, consisting of five faculties
- Medical College. In order to become a student at a medical college, you need to take one-year courses. The school works closely with the Medical School of the University of St Andrews in Scotland.
- College of Nursing, Lilongwa. College graduates are nurses and midwives.
- Polytechnic Institute of Malawi offers 15 departments with various specialties in the technical industry.
