Description of The University of Manchester
Today, the University of Manchester is one of the most prestigious in the county. It is also one of the famous research centers in England. The history of Manchester University began in 1824 with creating of the Institute of Mechanics. Later it was merged with the Royal University. Today, the University of Manchester is a multi-disciplinary institution. Departments of engineering, law, science, art, medicine, theology, commerce, music, business administration, pedagogy are organized.

The University of Manchester is a large UK university and research center. Important discoveries were made there during the 20th century. The first personal computer was assembled at the University, and research of international significance in atomic science was conducted there.

Accommodation, meals, prices
Eligible first-year students who meet the accommodation guarantee conditions are guaranteed an offer of a room in a residence hall, although the University cannot guarantee one of their preferred halls. The University offers more than 9,000 rooms and apartments.
Applications from students who do not meet the guarantee criteria are considered after all guaranteed students have received offers. Where possible, accommodation can be adapted for students with specific accessibility needs or long-term health conditions.
Residences offer different arrangements for cleaning and cooking, including full and partial self-service. Staff clean common areas and shared kitchens weekly, although arrangements may differ in partner halls.
University residences have 24/7 security, CCTV, and patrolling officers. The ResLife team, made up of postgraduate students and staff, provides practical and health-related support.

The University offers more than 80 sports, with opportunities ranging from beginner activities to elite competition. Most sports clubs are student-led, and many compete in BUCS, the Christie Championships, Varsity, and other local and national events. Qualified coaches attend training sessions, matches, and competitions.
Students can take part in creative and sports activities, as well as excursions in Manchester and elsewhere in England. Their daily routine combines theoretical and practical classes with independent study, while evenings offer social and recreational activities.

Admission dates and extra charges
Team Manchester members pay an affiliation fee that covers transportation, competition entry fees, lodging for competitions and fixtures, and annual gym membership at the Armitage Centre.
International students accepting an offer for a one-year taught master's program must pay a £2,500 deposit before the University issues the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies required for a Student Route visa.
Enrolment process
Undergraduate applications are handled through UCAS. After receiving an offer, students become eligible to request accommodation through the e-Accommodation Account system, with up to five hall preferences. Conditional offer holders receive room allocations once their offers become unconditional.
Master's applications are submitted online. Applicants receive an acknowledgment email, a University ID, and access to the MyManchester portal for application tracking, document uploads, and offer acceptance. The University contacts referees directly.
Tuition in subsequent years may increase by up to 7% annually for international students.

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol
Entry requirements vary by program. The University uses a contextual admissions policy, and students from disadvantaged backgrounds may receive offers up to two grades below the standard entry requirements. International undergraduate applicants typically need an IELTS score of 6.0–7.0, or 5.5 for foundation courses.
For master's programs, the University looks for students with outstanding achievement and potential. Applications are assessed using a four-stage framework covering academic qualifications, additional requirements such as references and professional experience, aptitude tests or interviews, and final confirmation. International postgraduate applicants typically need an IELTS score of 6.0–7.5.
Accepted English language tests include IELTS Academic and IELTS UKVI, Pearson PTE Academic, LanguageCert Academic SELT with test-center invigilation, Trinity ISE II, III, or IV, Cambridge CAE (C1 Advanced), Cambridge CPE (C2 Proficiency), and TOEFL iBT. IELTS, Pearson, and TOEFL scores are valid for two years from the test date.
Most international students need a Student Route visa and a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) issued by the University. Students staying more than six months must also pay the Immigration Health Surcharge.
