Witten/Herdecke University (Universität Witten Herdecke)

• Universität Witten Herdecke (UW/H), also called Witten/Herdecke University, is a nonprofit private university in Germany,
• It has conducted academic and research work since 1982,
• Its small student campus is in Witten,
• It offers fully English-taught master's programs, as well as bilingual and German-taught programs.

• Doctoral programs: economics, society, and health,
• exchange programs: one or two semesters.

Studium fundamentale is part of every degree program.

It includes more than 100 elective courses in politics, current affairs, ethics, philosophy, research methods, culture, society, and the arts.

Practical training begins on the first day. Future doctors and therapists gain exposure to clinical practice, while students in business programs work on real projects with partners. Psychology is taught in small groups, starting with the fundamentals of personality and social interaction.

International students can take weekly German courses at different levels. Each exchange student is paired with a UW/H student who provides support throughout the semester.

• The Faculty of Health offers doctoral programs in medicine, nursing, dentistry and oral and maxillofacial medicine, biology, chemistry, biochemistry, psychology, psychotherapy, and the natural sciences,
• the Faculty of Economics and Society offers the Dr. rer. pol. in public and economic sciences and the Dr. phil. in political science, sociology, or social sciences.

Dr Alina Tausch studies how people interact with new technologies, including human-robot collaboration and applications of artificial intelligence. Her research brings together expertise in engineering, business informatics, and mathematics.

Witten/Herdecke University has more than 830 employees.

The university cafeteria serves fresh meals, snacks, and drinks every day.

Infrastructure Universität

While studying at a university, students can enjoy the benefits of a large scientific library. In addition, students are provided with affordable housing and sports facilities. All this is located on campus in maximum proximity to university buildings.

After their documents and formal requirements have been reviewed, candidates are invited to a personal admission interview. The selection process includes individual interviews and group interactions that assess each candidate's motivation and ideas. Applicants to Witten/Herdecke University submit a complete set of documents by the established deadlines. The admissions committee considers examination results. There are five applicants for every place. Domestic and international applicants take part in the selection process on equal terms.

The academic year is divided into semesters. Students may use scholarships to cover part of their tuition.

• German is required for courses in the Health field: C1 for psychology and at least B2 for medicine and dentistry,

UW/H students in all fields may apply for the Deutschlandstipendium, which the university has awarded annually since 2011. It provides €300 per month for one year. Selection considers talent, academic performance, personal circumstances, community involvement, and willingness to take responsibility. The award is independent of income and does not reduce BaFöG government assistance.

Another financing option lets students pay after graduation. They make no payments while studying, then contribute a share of their monthly income for ten years. The rate is 8% for a bachelor's degree, 12% for a combined bachelor's and master's degree or medicine, and 14% for dentistry. Doctoral candidates can finance their studies by working as research assistants at the academic chairs where they prepare their dissertations.
