FernUniversität in Hagen (abbreviated FU Hagen) is a state-type educational institution in Germany, which began its educational work in the distant 1974. The main building of the institution is located in Hagen.

In the English for Humanities and Social Sciences course, students use COFFEE AI for automatic feedback on written assignments. The tool evaluates text structure, source usage, grammar, and word choice. Work can be revised and resubmitted an unlimited number of times.

The writing center reviews 1–2-page excerpts from student academic papers and answers specific questions about content and formatting. A response usually arrives within 24 hours in written form or is discussed in a brief Zoom meeting.

The Start-It-Up: Für Studierende im Ausland online program is designed for students of all faculties living abroad. Participants learn about semester deadlines, terminology, university services, and examination procedures. During the program, participants can receive guidance and ask individual questions.

The Open.Oral-History project develops guidelines and tools for risk assessment, anonymization, and access to audiovisual interviews that are protected by law and require special attention for ethical reasons.

The Oral-History.Digital project has created a digital infrastructure for scholarly collections of audiovisual biographical interviews.

• In 2004, the FernUniversität friends' society founded the Deutschsprachiges Fernstudienzentrum Budapest foundation.

English Café is designed for practicing conversational English and developing intercultural skills. In 2022, the project began collaborating with the Spanish Institut Obert de Catalunya, bringing together students from two educational institutions.

All three Start-It-Up formats involve meeting and communicating with other students.

It is about the university, which invariably enters the TOP-60 of the best institutions of this type in Germany, and also enters the TOP of the best in the world.

This is a fairly large educational institution, where the course takes about 34,000 annually. During the period of study, all students can take part in exchange programs between universities or, if desired or necessary, transfer to distance learning from the full-time education system and vice versa.
