Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH)

One of Peru’s best institutions of higher education is Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH). This is a private institution, which is controlled by the Board of Trustees (patronage) and in fact is not owned by any private or public association. In operation since 1961. Caetano Heredia University is the largest publisher of scientific articles in the country. Geographically, the institution is located in the city of Lima.

In the national ranking, UPCH is in the TOP 5 of the best institutions, being in 3rd place. In the list of prestigious international institutions takes 856 position. Most university professors are foreign specialists.

Among the outstanding graduates of the educational institution it is worth noting:

• Carlos José Bustamante (Peruvian-American scientist, a member of the National Academy of Sciences);
• Ramiro Castro de la Mata (doctor, scientist, pharmacologist, professor and founder of Caetano Heredia University in Lima, Peru. He was internationally recognized as an expert in the field of drug addiction);
• Maria C. Freire (President and Executive Director of the National Institutes of Health Foundation (FNII). She is also a member of the US National Academy of Medicine and the Council on Foreign Relations);
• Umberto Guerra Ellison (physician and scientist);
• Juan E. Mezzich, MD, Ph.D. (President of the World Psychiatric Association (WPA)).

The main campus of the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia is geographically located in the city of Lima. The educational institution contains the following objects: a student library, a sports complex, playgrounds, research laboratories, a comfortable furnished dormitory for foreign citizens. Foreign citizens can do the same with local residents. Gender restrictions are absent. The educational institution contains the following faculties:

Tuition for a bachelor’s / master’s degree is 12,500 USD / year. The school year classically consists of two semesters. The number of students is about 7,000. The faculty has about 360 teachers. Foreign students account for 9% of the total.

Caetano Heredia University has established numerous cooperation agreements with leading institutions from around the world, including the Johns Hopkins University, the Washington Institute, the University of California at San Diego, the California Institute of Berkeley, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, the Prince’s Institute of Tropical Medicine Leopold in Belgium and the University of Pennsylvania. UPCH supports an exchange program, through which students can receive part of their education at another prestigious institution.
