Top must-see attractions in Australia

Top must-see attractions in Australia

Many people know about Australia that kangaroos live there and it is located "below" the Earth (so there are many jokes that they have everything upside down). But what sights of Australia should everyone see?

The Great Ocean Road

This is a famous scenic coastal road in Victoria, stretching for 243 km and passing through beautiful beaches, rocky cliffs and dense forests. Rent a trailer, grab a surfboard, and set off on a road trip: stop at parks to see koalas and kangaroos, swim near waterfalls, and check out atmospheric roadside pubs.

The Twelve Apostles

At one point on the Great Ocean Road, in Port Campbell Park, you can see several limestone rocks that are more than two million years old.

Initially, the "Twelve Apostles" was called "The Pig and the Piglets".

By the way, there are not 12 "apostles", but only 9, and recently another rock collapsed - they can all destroy soon. This natural landmark arose as a result of the destruction of limestone under the influence of wind and water.

In addition to the rocks, in Port Campbell you can see Gibson Steps Cliff, Loch Ard Ridge and other attractions.

Great Barrier Reef

It is the world's largest coral reef system. The reef stretches for 2000 km and consists of 900 islands. It is just a paradise for divers because thousands of species of fish, mollusks, and marine mammals live here.

Start your trip at the Great Reef Gateway, the city of Cairns. There are many beautiful places here: waterfalls, a greenhouse of tropical butterflies and the Daintree cable car.

Blue Mountains

This is the "Grand Canyon" of Australia. The mountains are covered with eucalyptus, which evaporate essential oil in the sun, which forms a haze. Be sure to follow the trails along the Blue Mountains with your guide: he will tell you about the aborigines who lived here, and show you their cave paintings, dwellings and many other interesting things.

Near the mountains, there is a park of the same name, which has the incredible Wallamen Falls, and also the steepest railway in the world - the Katoomba Scenic Railway. Previously, coal from mines was transported along it, and now anyone can ride at an angle of 52 degrees.

Tasmania

It takes a long time to get here, but here you can see different animals. For example, penguins live on Lillico Beach, and in the Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary, specialists restore the population of various endangered species of animals. See the funny Tasmanian devil that lives here! And the state also has the Tasman Road, which runs along beaches, forests and cozy coastal houses.

Uluru

This sandstone mountain is a sacred site for the Anangu indigenous people. The height of Uluru is about 348 meters. The rock changes color depending on the time of day and season, it looks especially impressive at sunset, when it acquires bright red and orange shades. You cannot climb the mountain so as not to hurt the feelings of the Anangu: tourists can admire Uluru from the observation deck, and as part of an excursion go to the foot, where you will be shown rock paintings.

Sydney Opera House

Surely you have seen the photo of this incredible architectural structure! Its unique design, reminiscent of the sails of a ship or giant shells, was created by the Danish architect Jørn Utzon. The theater hosts film screenings, performances and much more. To get inside, you need to buy a ticket for a tour or some kind of performance - however, you should do this in advance, because they are quickly sold out.

Cathedral of the Virgin Mary

In the City, among business centers and newfangled buildings, you can be surprised to see the Cathedral of the Virgin Mary. The building of 1788 has become the main shrine of the country, the main Catholic events are celebrated here, but you can also get here on a tour organized by church workers, or come to mass on the weekend.

Sydney Aquarium

The largest aquarium in the country, which is home to more than 13 thousand marine inhabitants. It is divided into 14 sections -  the most interesting (in our subjective opinion) are "Penguin Territory" and "Shark Valley". For a fee, you can even swim among fanged predators and cuddle penguins!

International tourists can come to Australia: a visa is issued, but, however, there are no direct flights. If you want to travel by car, then it is easy to rent a car at the airport.
