TOP-5 Most Unusual Russian Landscapes

TOP-5 Most Unusual Russian Landscapes

Russia is not in vain listed as the largest on planet Earth - of course, we can boast of the largest number of unique natural attractions among others, several times more than in other countries. We have black as resin beaches – just like Icelandic beaches – and pink lakes are no worse than Australian ones.

We have visited these extraordinary places and will be happy to tell you why they must be visited and examined with your own eyes.

Red River

An unusual place, for which you do not need to go to another continent - it is enough to visit the Meshcher forests in central Russia. The secret lies in the excessive content of iron in the water - it is deposited on algae and stones, the result is such an unusual picture.

The closest analogue is the red river Rio Tinto in Spain. Its history is also associated with iron compounds, but the appearance is probably due to man-made causes. Scientists believe that either the river was originally inhabited by a colony of bacteria capable of existing in the wildest conditions, or it appeared there during the extraction of iron and related salts of heavy metals, which successfully coped with the task of killing all life in the reservoir.

The story is terrible, but it looks, of course, just stunningly impressive.

Black sand

Rest on white or yellow sea or river sand is a stereotype. What if this sand has an unusual color? Say black? We are talking about sands of volcanic origin. They can easily be found on the Canary Islands, New Zealand coasts, beaches of the west coast of the United States of America, in Bali and Iceland - in short, in places where high volcanic activity persists.

In Russia, there is a similar on the northern volcanoes of Kamchatka and the Magadan region. In terms of energy, these places are difficult to compare with anything else.

Pink Lakes

The unusual color of the lake water is associated with the habitation in its waters of algae of a special species - Dunaliella salina. This living creature is able to exist in water that contains a wild amount of salt, and with all this produce a huge amount of carotene - and the latter, in turn, paints the water in a specific color, steadily associated with glamour and similar strange things. Water tinting varies depending on the season and weather conditions, and the highest concentration is achieved during dry seasons.

Similar lakes should be sought in Canada, Senegal and the Gambia, on the Spanish shores, on the Southern Continent and in the Azerbaijani mountains. In Russia, there are similar ones in the Astrakhan region and among the Crimean salt marshes.

Water with a pink tint is very unusual and for nothing that salty, not suitable for bathing and other water procedures - such a meeting will be detrimental to clothes and shoes, not to mention the skin of the feet.

Crooked trees

At the time when these trees were planted, they were the most ordinary, but for some unknown reason, their trunks began to grow crookedly. The secret of such a change has not yet been revealed.

There are hypotheses that link this moment with geomagnetic activity, strong winds or the influence of a nearby split in the earth's crust. However, a more plausible scenario seems to be in which the upper shoots were devoured by local caterpillars - and the tree began to grow in a different direction.

Such anomalous thickets are easily found in the Polish Republic, Ryazan and Kaliningrad regions. It is still not clear what predetermined the frightening appearance of plants. Locals even believe that it is in the Nazi experiments with chemical weapons. However, now the forests are completely safe for tourists.

Mountains of pillars

Another artifact that arose due to volcanic activity.

Quickly cooling, the magma turned into basalt columns of unusual shape. In the Icelandic case, this is called the "pavement" or "esplanade" of the giants, in the Armenian mountains there is a "Stone Organ". You can find amazing specimens in the Mexican states, and in the American, in the Philippine Islands, in India and on the Russian Sakhalin.

In the latter case, the columns have the shape of a hexagon with smooth faces and confidently resemble the work of human hands. In fact, there is no participation of erect people here - but water and air erosion, raindrops, temperature changes and fluctuations due to the change of seasons, as well as the most ruthless laws on the planet - physical ones - worked.
