Paris' Eiffel Tower has climbed to the top of the ranking of the world's most overrated attractions. In addition, the list of tourist disappointments includes many ancient ruins, including the pyramids at Giza and the temple at Karnak, the Colosseum of the Eternal City , and the tower in Pisa, which has not fallen down for five centuries.
The study demonstrated that:
- 57% of tourists usually get positive emotions from sightseeing. The remaining 40% noted that at least once in their lives this had not happened to them and the trip brought nothing but disappointment.
- The majority of respondents (67%) were not satisfied because the reality did not meet their expectations.
- 27% complained about overcrowding, crowds, pickpockets and noise.
- Many were disappointed that the sights looked different from the photos on the World Wide Web.
- About 10% of people who took part in the survey pointed to the inaccessibility of facilities and the high cost of entrance tickets.
It is noted that this is not the first time that the Eiffel Tower is at the top (or at the bottom, depending on how you look at it) tourist anti-ratings. Of the more than 19,000 reviews on one popular travel portal, 13% were negative, with the main complaints being long queues at ticket booths, numerous street vendors and fences that prevented you from fully enjoying the view.
