A high-profile scandal broke out in the most famous universities of the American Ivy League: the first black woman president of Harvard University, Claudine Gaye, was forced to resign after accusations of anti-Jewish sentiments and plagiarism.
The accusations came from "conservative activists" during congressional hearings on anti-Semitism on campuses, where Claudine Gay was criticized after answering ambiguously about national hostility to Jews within the walls of the university, in particular, whether anti-Semitic statements within the walls of the university would be considered violations of Harvard policy. After that, the attacks on the President of Harvard continued: her doctoral dissertation, which Mrs. Gay defended in 1997, was carefully studied... And then the President of Harvard was accused of plagiarism, to which the Board of Governors said that errors in incorrectly formatted citations were found in the scientific work, and Mrs. Gay would correct her work and bring it into proper form.
But amid all the scandals, Claudine Gay stepped down from her post, becoming the second female president of Ivy League universities to leave office in the past month.
Earlier, the president of the University of Pelsinvan, Liz Magill, resigned.
Claudine Gay graduated from Stanford University with a degree in economics, followed by a doctorate in political science from Harvard University, and in July 2023 became the first black woman president in the history of the university.
