Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) is the best university of the Arabian State of Oman, located in the city of Muscat. Sultan Qaboos University is a public non-profit university. Not only Oman applicants, but also citizens of other countries strive to get into this prestigious educational institution.
The construction of this training center is the fulfillment of the promise announced by Sultan Qaboos Bin Said in 1980 during the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the National Day of the country. Construction began in 1982, and the first students of the Sultan Qaboos University were enrolled in 1986. In accordance with the royal decree, the university began work with five colleges: medicine, engineering, agriculture, education and science. The direction of the arts was created in 1987, and trade and economics in 1993. The College of Law joined the university in 2006, and the nursing faculty was created in 2008. The design and construction of the campus was tailored to its intended purpose, while the general appearance of the buildings was carefully planned to meet the physical, intellectual and spiritual needs of students, faculty and staff.

Located in the valley and surrounded by the rather harsh nature of the nearby foothills of Oman, Sultan Qaboos University is a tasteful building of many buildings, designed with arches and courtyards and built of white and pink sandstone in the traditional architectural style of the country. The university is built in a valley on an axis with a final ensemble of buildings oriented towards Mecca. This centerline begins at the entrance to the university, passes through the administrative building with its massive Omani doors, through the middle of the academic buildings to the university mosque at the western end of the campus. The mosque, with its large dome and minarets, is located on the top tier of the campus and is visible from all the survey points of the university.
During the design, the university landscape design was carefully thought out and the plantings turned into green gardens and flower gardens. Plantings include species growing in Oman and other regions of the Persian Gulf, adapted to the arid climate of the country. Gardening provides shade from the sun throughout the year and creates a comfortable environment for walking.
Traditional Islamic gender separation is maintained in the architecture of the university. There is a separate access to the buildings through the upper and lower aisles for men and women and certain places in the classrooms.
In general, the campus depicts the rich heritage of the Omani state, but also includes all the effective features of the modern world. The result is an educational and living environment that combines functionality and aesthetics.
