The Technological Institute was established on November 28, 1828 in St. Petersburg. Now SPbGTI (TU) is an educational and scientific center, a center for the education of individuals, which prepares sought-after and highly qualified specialists who quickly adapt to various teams (production, design or scientific). 

There are 6 faculties represented in SPbSTI (TU):

1. Chemistry of substances and materials;
2. Chemical and biotechnology;
3. Mechanical;
4. Information Technology and Management;
5. Engineering and technological;
6. Economics and Management.

To date, SPbSTI (TU) is a modern educational and scientific center, which actively conducts international developments in various fields (industrial design, solution of environmental problems, medical and defense industries). 

On the basis of SPbSTI (TU), the Youth Scientific Society was created, which actively promotes the development of students, graduate students and applicants in scientific fields.

Teachers of SPbSTI (TU) are laureates of the State Prize of the USSR and the Government of the Russian Federation in the field of science and technology, academicians and corresponding members of Russian and international academies, Honored Workers of Science and Technology of the Russian Federation, Honored Workers of Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Honored Workers of Higher Professional Education of the Russian Federation, Honored Workers of the Education Sphere of the Russian Federation.

The Technological Institute has 6 dormitories in landscaped areas of the city: next to them there are picturesque parks, recreation areas, sports grounds. The hostels have a convenient infrastructure: shops and shopping complexes within walking distance, a district polyclinic and affordable transport links.

Places in dormitories can be provided to all nonresident students and foreigners studying full-time / part-time for the period of certification, as well as applicants for the period of entrance examinations.

Also, SPbGTI (TU) provides places for disabled people and persons with disabilities (with the exception of persons with disorders of the musculoskeletal system).

Over the long years of the institute's existence, students have developed a good tradition - holding holidays, competitions and tournaments: "Freshman's Day", "Sports Competitions", "Chess Tournament", "Subbotnik" and many others. 

Also on the basis of SPbSTI (TU) there is an authorized collegial body of student self-government - the Joint Council of Students (CSO), which was created to take into account the opinion of students on a number of issues, to coordinate the educational process, support and develop student associations and personal initiatives.

SPbGTI (TU) is divided into:

• institute
• academic building,
• educational and laboratory building,
• laboratory building,
• venue of the state final certification,
• places of practice and practical education of students.

Also in SPbSTI (TU) there is a Fundamental Library, which is one of the structural units that provides the educational process and scientific activity. 

The Institute has a very convenient location, transport accessibility, good location relative to cultural sites and attractions of the city, park areas and cafes.

For sports by students living in dormitories, each building is equipped with a sports hall, a recreation room, a spacious hall, an Internet connection.

Classes in all forms of full-time education begin on September 1.

For applicants to SPbSTI (TU) there are paid courses to prepare for admission (on the basis of 11 classes) in the following academic disciplines:

• Mathematics; 
• Chemistry;

And also on the basis of 9th and 10th grades:

• Chemistry School.

Additional costs:

• education in additional educational programs;
• education , reeducation and advanced education of employees and specialists of the appropriate level.

Also, additional expenses of students include fees for accommodation and services, which are paid monthly (no later than the 10th day of the following month).

Applicants to SPbGTI (TU) must provide:

• application;
• consent to the processing of personal data;
• document on education;
• information on passing the unified state exam;
• passport (copy);
• SNILS (for citizens of the Russian Federation);

• a document confirming the benefit (if necessary);
• contract for targeted education (if necessary);
• 2 photos (3x4 cm).

At the stage of enrollment:

• original of the document on education;
• consent to enrollment;
• signed contract for education (with paid admission).

In case of remote submission of documents, their originals must be submitted to the faculty no later than 5 days from the beginning of education .

For applicants to bachelor's, specialist's and master's programs in full-time form, the following terms are set:

• the deadline for the start of accepting documents is June 20;
• the deadline for accepting documents for applicants based on the results of entrance examinations conducted by SPbSTI (TU) independently is July 11;
• the deadline for the completion of entrance examinations conducted by SPbGTI (TU) independently, as well as the deadline for the deadline for accepting documents for applicants based on the results of entrance examinations in the USE format is July 25.

Also, SPbGTI (TU) can be counted and additional admission to vacant places. 

Admission to education (including additional) ends no later than October 20.

Statistics of students for 2022:

• 4000 people - full-time form;
• 1100 people — full-time correspondence form; 
• 4500 people - correspondence form.

Over the years, the Technological Institute has educated more than 68,000 specialists.

Equipping the Technological Institute with the latest equipment, competent, proven as the best, teaching staff of SPbSTI (TU) allows students to get an excellent education, further work in modern industries or conduct research in various scientific fields. Thanks to this, at the moment more than 110 graduates have already been elected academicians and corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Sciences and industry academies.

Persons with education of the appropriate level, which is confirmed by a document on secondary general, secondary vocational, or higher education, are allowed to study at SPbSTI (TU).

Admission of applicants to study at SPbSTI (TU) is carried out on a competitive basis (except for persons eligible for admission without entrance tests): on the basis of the results of the Unified State Exam, which are equated to the results of entrance examinations (bachelor's and specialist's degree) and (or) according to the results of entrance examinations conducted by SPbSTI (TU), taking into account individual achievements (master's degree). 

The minimum threshold score in general education subjects required for admission to SPbSTI (TU) is 45. 

SPbGTI (TU) provides the following types of material support:

• Scholarship named after A.S. Dudyrev (20 000 rubles) for applicants who scored at least 260 points according to the results of the Unified State Exam and enter the following specialties: "Chemical technology of energy-saturated materials and products"; "Design of technological machines and complexes";
• Scholarship named after Yu.N. Kukushkin (25 000 rubles) for applicants admitted out of competition (prize-winners and winners of Olympiads of schoolchildren in chemistry, physics, biology or computer science);
• Scholarship named after A.A. Petrov (15,000 rubles) for applicants who scored at least 260 points according to the results of the Unified State Exam and enter the bachelor's degree areas: "Chemical Technology", "Energy- and Resource-Saving Processes in Chemical Technology, Petrochemistry and Biotechnology";
• Scholarship named after K.A. Petrzhak (15 000 rubles) for applicants who scored at least 260 points according to the results of the Unified State Exam and enter the specialty "Chemical Technology of Materials of Modern Energy".
