Sookmyung Women's University

Sookmyung Women's University ( 숙명 여자 대학교 ) is a private higher education institution that has been active in scientific and academic work in South Korea since the beginning of the distant 1906. Now Sookmyung Women's University is conveniently located within the major city of Seoul.

This university is considered to be medium in scale, since here every year successfully passes a course of about 19,000 people. The institution itself is represented in various social networks, including LinkedIn .

The educational process combines flexible formats for obtaining a degree: students can change their major once during their studies (within 20% of the intake), choose an interfaculty (related) major, independently design an individual major, and also complete a micro-degree in current fields — big data, fintech, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and others. A combined «bachelor's + master's» program lasting approximately five years is available, and top senior students can count master's courses toward their degree.

Language training is well developed: the ACE (Academic and Communicative English) applied and communicative English program includes five specialized tracks — engineering, business, media, tourism-cultural, and communication — with level placement based on a placement test. More than 150 courses in English are available for international students.

The university includes colleges of humanities, natural sciences, engineering, Human Ecology, social sciences, law, economics and business administration, music, pharmacy and fine arts, as well as Sunheon College, Hallyu International College and independent units — departments of global service, English language and literature, and media.

Postgraduate education is represented by the Graduate School, the Graduate School of Professional Studies, the Graduate School of Education, and the Graduate School of Business, which hosts Korea's first MBA program in human resources management and labor relations.

• The university is home to the Le Cordon Bleu — Sookmyung Academy, the second in Asia after Japan and the only school in Korea of the famous French culinary tradition Le Cordon Bleu.

• In 1997, the university was the first in Korea to introduce the international TESOL English teacher training program in partnership with an American university (University of Maryland).

Foreign program participants are accommodated at SMU International House: western-style rooms are designed for two people and are equipped with a private bathroom, central heating and air conditioning, a bed, wardrobe, writing desk, bookshelf, and LAN internet connection.

The university offers international students a rich cultural and extracurricular program.

There is a student volunteer group U.R.I. (United Relationship for Internationalization), where local students help international students adapt to life in Korea. Every January, a three-week Winter Beyond Borders program is held, featuring Korean language study, taekwondo, and excursions to historical sites, as well as short-term Global Cultural Exchange programs with courses in Korean language, culture, and economics and field classes.

The university collaborates with partner universities abroad from the USA, Australia, and Hong Kong.

It is about the South Korean University, which with enviable regularity in recent years, ranks the highest in the national ranking of the country. 

The university of South Korea has at its disposal a large scientific library. A higher education institution provides students with accommodation in a small dormitory. Also on campus of the university there are sports fields, parking, places for quiet rest and walks.

Enrollment in this institution of higher education is based on the presented results of entrance exams. the admissions committee also analyzes data on the past academic performance of each applicant. Cost of admission to Sookmyung Women's University

Each academic year the university divides into two academic semesters. The academic year can be divided according to the classical scheme into two academic semesters. Despite the fact that the university itself is private, all students can count on financial assistance in the form of scholarships.

The university offers a number of scholarships. The Sookmyung Alumni Scholarship is available to students whose mother is a full-fledged graduate of the university, and covers 100% of tuition costs for the summer and winter sessions and 50% for the spring and autumn semesters. International students can receive scholarships by participating in the volunteer language programs English Speaking Spot (ESS) and Second Language Tutoring (SLT), teaching Korean students their native language. The university also participates in Korea's national scholarship program (Global Korea Scholarship, GKS) for international undergraduate and graduate students.
