IGCSE - Grades 7-10

The IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) program Swiss International Boarding School, better known as the "Cambridge Certificate", allows you to prepare and successfully pass the IGCSE exams in grade 10. Graduates will be eligible for higher education around the world, for example, in the USA, Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore.

Suggested disciplines:

  • English as the first language - the course allows students to develop the ability to clearly, accurately, effectively communicate when speaking, writing, using a wide range of vocabulary, correct grammar, spelling, punctuation.
  • German as a first language: the course is intended for students whose mother tongue is German. Participants will expand their vocabulary, will use the correct grammar, spelling, punctuation.
  • German / French as a second language - the curriculum is intended for students studying German / French as a foreign language. The course is based on improving the language skills of listening, reading, speaking, writing.
  • Global Perspectives is a two-year course that includes the skills of critical thinking, research, analysis, and solving the problems facing the world today. Issues are addressed at local / national / global levels.
  • Geography - The course focuses on the relationship between human activities and the environment. We study the physical, social, economic, political, cultural environments and their impact on the landscape.
  • Mathematics encourages the development of mathematical knowledge as a key life skill, provides the basis for deeper study.
  • Natural sciences - provides candidates with the opportunity to study biology, chemistry, physics, the basic principles of each subject through a combination of theoretical and practical studies.
  • Business research - students develop business skills, principles of doing business in the public and private sectors, learn to accept the importance of innovation and timely change. Students will learn how the main types of business organization are created, financed and managed, and how their activities are regulated.
  • ICT (information and communication technology) is the main subject for all students, since computers will play a big role in their working life. Students will form the value of technology in society, including the social, economic, and ethical fields.
  • Tourism management - the subject is included in the curriculum from grade 7. Students study both theory and practical aspects of the subject, so a week-long internship is included in it (based on sports clubs, hotels, tourist offices). This gives students the opportunity to look “behind the scenes” of the profession, to study everyday organizational work.
  • Music and art - the program encourages aesthetic and emotional development, self-discipline, creativity, individual self-expression, imagination, sensitivity, conceptual thinking, observation, analytical skills.

Accommodation and food

The student hotel is located near the school building and sports facilities, which provides the possibility of convenient quick transition between the buildings. Offered rooms - single or double, many of them offer stunning views of the Swiss Alps.

Students will be offered meals and a varied menu, they have a choice of dishes and drinks, special attention is paid to local ingredients. Pupils have lunch together in a restaurant.

Events SiBS Swiss International Boarding School

  • Two high-altitude recreation areas Gemmi and Torrent offer unique areas for hiking, cycling, climbing in summer and winter. In winter, participants are offered alpine skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing. Gemmi and Torrent tracks provide a vibrant sporting experience.
  • The Snowpark sports arena allows beginners to take their first steps on skis and snowboards, expert trails are open for advanced users. Snowpark offers a balanced program year-round indoors and outdoors: ice skating, curling, tennis, squash, bouldering, mini-golf are available.
  • Young people can take part in annual events: triathlon, International Literary Festival, mountain biking, Nightrace 777, a culinary trip, a wine festival, a shepherd dog festival.
  • Leukerbad has more than 30 clubs - sports, music, theater, youth.
  • SIBS sports facilities offer students an ice rink for relaxation and professional hockey games, two basketball courts, four indoor tennis courts, badminton courts, a fully equipped gym, an indoor water park, and a specially constructed audience with fantastic acoustics - a great place for musical performances or a theater.

Swiss International Boarding School enrolls new students year-round: students can apply for the school year and summer program at any time. International students must provide an official IELTS score or be interviewed via skype to assess English as needed.
