Clayesmore School is a coeducational independent school founded in 1896. Its 62-acre campus includes a historic manor house and lake in Iwerne Minster, Dorset, in southern England. The school is part of the Inspired Learning Group (ILG) and is a member of HMC, IAPS and ISBA. Clayesmore educates pupils aged 3 to 18 across four divisions: Pre-Prep (Reception to Year 2), Prep School (Years 3-8), Senior School (Years 9-11) and Sixth Form (Years 12-13). The school offers boarding and day places. Around 15% of its pupils come from other countries, including Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Austria, Russia, Nigeria, Kenya, Turkey and China. The campus is located between Shaftesbury and Blandford Forum on the A350, approximately 2.5 hours from Central London and 2 hours from Heathrow Airport by car. Clayesmore is recognized as a Cambridge English Examination Center of Excellence. Its five-year LEX program develops skills, habits and confidence for further study and adult life.

Clayesmore has small classes across all divisions, giving each pupil individual attention. Pupils use laptops for most of their work. Google Classroom helps them organize assignments and provides parents with weekly summaries. The school reports to parents every half-term on progress in classwork and supervised study. Academic work includes the development of study skills and revision strategies. Pupils take examinations relatively early in the year, leaving time for targeted improvement. By the end of September, Year 9 pupils are placed in ability groups for English, Mathematics and Science. These groups are reviewed after examinations and at the end of the academic year. The Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) helps pupils and subject teachers identify effective approaches to learning. Teachers have experience supporting pupils with dyslexia, ADHD and mild autism. The five-year LEX program develops skills, habits and confidence for further study and adult life. Year 9 pupils take part in LEX Futures, a weekly rotation that includes a Business Challenge, debating, critical thinking, teamwork and communication. Pupils in Years 10 and 11 take part in LEX Think, which offers academic enrichment beyond the curriculum. Pupils have one tutor in Year 9 and a new tutor for Years 10-11. The tutor acts as a mentor with support from Houseparents and the Deputy Head (Academic). • Pre-Prep (Reception to Year 2, ages 4-7): a nurturing environment with forest school, swimming, outdoor play and a curriculum that sparks curiosity and creativity.
• Prep School (Years 3-8, ages 7-13): an adapted national curriculum with the Common Entrance syllabus in English, maths and science for Years 7-8. Specialist teaching in art, ceramics, design and technology, computing, French, games, music and PE.
• Senior School (Years 9-11, ages 13-16): students take a wide range of subjects in Year 9 and choose their GCSEs in March/April. Most students take 9 GCSEs, studying English Language, Mathematics and all three Sciences as core subjects, with up to 4 optional subjects.
• Sixth Form (Years 12-13, ages 16-18): 16 A-Levels available — Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, French, Spanish, English Literature, History, Geography, Art, Photography, Economics, Business, Design Technology, Psychology. 5 Level 3 BTECs — Sport, Hospitality, Health and Social Care, IT, Performing Arts and Music Technology. Students usually take three subjects. Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) also available.

The group offers a British Boarding School Experience program for international pupils aged 10-18. Clayesmore is a recognized Cambridge English Examination Center of Excellence, and international pupils can take Cambridge English examinations on campus. New pupils account for about 50-60% of the Year 9 intake, so many pupils begin at Clayesmore together. The school offers a fast-track admissions option that can be completed in approximately five days for families who need to change schools quickly. At least two-thirds of Prep School pupils learn a musical instrument. Former pupils have continued their music studies at the Royal Academy of Music, Royal Holloway and the Royal Northern College of Music.

93% of Year 13 pupils secured places at one of their chosen universities. Some students scored up to 232 UCAS points, including 3 A* grades. Recent destinations include: Aerospace Engineering at the University of Bristol, Biological Sciences at the University of Warwick, Biochemistry at the University of Leeds, Accounting and Finance at the University of Exeter, Music and Sound Production at BIMM, Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Birmingham, and Sport and Exercise Science at Cardiff Metropolitan University. Recent music leavers have gone on to study at the Royal Academy of Music, Royal Holloway and the Royal Northern College of Music. Graduates pursue a wide range of paths including Russell Group universities, RADA, music conservatoires, professional apprenticeship schemes and entrepreneurship.

Students are offered accommodation in residences on campus on a full board basis. School fees include accommodation, food, school books and most weekend activities and excursions. The Senior School has five boarding houses: three for boys and two for girls. Each house has its own character and community and is led by experienced Houseparents, supported by pastoral and academic staff who know each pupil personally. The daily routine includes breakfast, morning and afternoon lessons, dinner, supervised study and free time in the common rooms. Prep School boarding is based in Aubrey House, where around 50 girls and boys are cared for by House Parents, matrons, nursing staff and tutors. Boarding is available from Year 3, at age 8. Weekends for full boarders include activities, trips and social events. International boarders who cannot return home during exeat weekends can stay at school and join excursions to destinations such as London, Edinburgh, Bath, the Jurassic Coast and Longleat Safari Park. Airport transfers can be arranged for overseas boarders.

The school offers a broad extracurricular program. The sports program includes rugby, hockey and cricket as major sports for boys and hockey, netball and tennis as major sports for girls. A, B and C teams compete against local, national and international sides. Other activities include athletics, basketball, football, swimming, cross-country, squash, equestrian sports, rowing, sailing, badminton, fencing and table tennis. The school also has a girls' cricket team. Each year group has three afternoons of sport per week, and pupils in Years 9-11 also attend Core PE sessions. The school holds inter-house competitions each term and offers holiday sports academies and masterclasses. Music is an important part of school life. The school has an orchestra, a rock band, several string ensembles and a choir. Concerts and recitals are held regularly. The main building contains classrooms, a library, a computer center, one residence and a large school dining hall. The Sports Center includes a large hall, indoor cricket nets, badminton and squash courts, a fitness suite and an indoor 25-meter swimming pool. Pupils can use these facilities during their free time. Outdoor facilities include a full-size floodlit all-weather hockey pitch, which is converted into tennis courts during the summer, as well as playing fields and pitches. Pre-Prep facilities include a forest school, access to swimming facilities and outdoor play areas. The campus also has dance and music facilities and studios for art, ceramics, design and technology.

Admission to Clayesmore may include an initial inquiry, submission of the child's latest school report or Head's reference, a school visit or online meeting, entrance assessments in English and Mathematics, and a Science assessment for Year 10 applicants. Pupils applying for Reception through Year 8 may attend a taster day. The school reviews reports, references and assessment results before making a formal offer. Acceptance requires registration and payment of a deposit. International applicants may attend a visit or online meeting and complete assessment and language tests where required. They must provide school reports and references, accept a formal offer, pay the deposit and obtain the required Student Visa through UKVI. Clayesmore also offers a fast-track admissions option for families changing schools because of relocation, family circumstances or school closures. The process can take approximately five days, and a pupil may start within one week of the initial inquiry.

93% of Year 13 pupils secured places at one of their chosen universities. Some pupils achieved up to 232 UCAS points, including 3 A* grades. A total of 144 UCAS points is equivalent to AAA. Clayesmore supports pupils applying to selective universities and colleges of art, music and drama. Graduates follow a range of paths, including study at leading universities, RADA and music conservatories, professional apprenticeship programs and entrepreneurship. All pupils joining the school must have the potential to pass at least 6 GCSEs. Most take 9 GCSEs, and many achieve high grades across their subjects.

Students joining Years 7-9 are required to complete short assessments in English and Mathematics. Students joining Year 10 also complete an assessment in Science. Assessments can be taken during a school visit or completed at home via secure online links. In some cases, if school reports and references are satisfactory, formal entrance assessments may not be required. International students entering Year 9 (age 13/14) are expected to reach a B1/Preliminary Level standard in English, while those joining Sixth Form require B1/First Certificate Level. International pupils joining the Prep School are expected to have B1 level, although the school can be more flexible on language standards at this stage. Students coming to the UK need to apply for a Child Student Visa (ages 4-17). Once the place is accepted, the school applies for a CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) which is submitted with the visa application. The minimum stay for international students is two terms, though shorter stays are considered on a case-by-case basis.

Clayesmore offers scholarships each year for entry to the Senior School in Year 9 and the Sixth Form in Year 12. Scholarships are available for academic subjects, art, music, sport, drama and design technology. The Prep School also offers several forms of fee support. Many Year 8 pupils receive scholarships in different disciplines when moving from Prep to Senior School. The Senior School and Sixth Form also offer fee support programs for families who need help with school fees.
