BTEC

A BTEC qualification is considered by most universities to be the equivalent of an A-level. But this is more practice-oriented, not theoretical education. This is a more professional course, because it is more often chosen by students who are confident in the profession that they want to master. BTEC differs from A-level also by a more constant, regular assessment: if the final exams have the main weight in A-level, then the assessment of success at BTEC consists of an assessment of the tasks that the student performs throughout the program.

Sherfield School offers several BTEC options to choose from:

  • Business
  • Music Technologies
  • Performing arts
  • Sport.

Review about Sherfield Private School

Koval Anna
(12.07.2022)
I want to leave a review that I hope will help parents who are choosing a school for younger children. We were looking for full boarding options for a 10-year-old child. The problem was that the schools that accept children at this age were very far away, and we didn't want a young child to have a long transfer to school. During a consultation at Smart Products and Services, our manager Mari suggested we consider this option. After researching the school, we decided to apply. Our child took an English test, which can be done at home or at the agency's office. We took it at the office. Then our child had an interview with the headmaster. We were worried about the interview since our child didn't have much experience speaking English. Special thanks to Mari for providing a list of questions so we could prepare with a tutor. Now our child has been at the school for three years. We really like the school staff and how extracurricular life is organized. The school offers a wide range of clubs, and excursions happen almost every three weeks. Overall, we're happy with our choice so far.

We transferred our child to Year 9 at Sherfield after a state school in the same area. Since our child is a UK citizen, he had been attending a regular school, but the level of education, especially in the upper grades, was rather weak. That's why we decided to consider transferring to private schools in the same area. I can say that among the private schools in the district, this is the best option. A few years ago, the school got a new headmaster who was able to significantly raise the teaching standards by hiring new qualified teachers. We are very satisfied with the level of education and the work of all the school staff. I can't say anything about the boarding house because our child is a day student.

A decent private school, with a very beautiful, well-kept campus and an architecturally outstanding main building. The teachers and staff are top-notch. But from a sports perspective, it's not the best option, especially for team sports. Certainly, in this region, it's the most worthy choice. However, if you're not tied to a specific location, it's better to consider, for example, Bradfield or Queen Ethelburga's. Their sports programs are truly excellent.

With the help of Smart Products and Services, we were able to visit this school with our child. The introductory visit went well, we really liked the headmaster. We got the impression that he knows every child by name, and it was clear that the children and staff respect him greatly. We liked that the school regularly holds open lessons where parents can attend. We really liked the school's campus. It was classic England: well-kept fields and lawns. But our child said he didn't want to study in such a small town and would be bored there. We didn't argue and ended up choosing a school in London.
