Ravensborne was founded in 1959 through the merger of the Bromley School of Art and the Beckenham School of Art's Furniture Design Division, originally located in Bromley Common and Chislehurst in Outer London. In September 2010, the university moved to a purpose-built campus in Inner London on the Greenwich Peninsula.
