Homeschooling is becoming more and more popular. Children study at home under the guidance of parents or hired teachers, who independently develop the entire curriculum, tell new topics, give and check homework. But is it a good form of education?
What are the advantages of homeschooling
A great number of schoolchildren, including many celebrities, study at home. Therefore, this is a proven form of studying for years, which has a number of advantages:
- the teacher or parent gives the child 100% of his attention, so he learns general subjects in a way that is comfortable for him, moreover, if he has not mastered a certain topic, he can ask a million questions, and he will be answered to each one;
- parents themselves determine at what time their children study - this is a great option for those who do not like to wake up early;
- the child is not bullied by classmates and is protected from the bad influence of peers from school;
- the teacher himself regulates learning, for example, gives more complex or easier material, studies with those textbooks that, as it seems to him, are more suitable for the student;
- Parents and children will spend more time together, which will have a positive effect on their relationship.
Cons of homeschooling
Of course, this form of studying is not ideal, and there are a number of disadvantages that should be taken into account:
- parents and children should strictly follow the schedule and not abandon their classes;
- not all moms and dads know the basics of subjects and even more so the psychology of teaching;
- it is expensive, because parents need to hire tutors, buy additional educational materials, and so on;
- the child communicates less with peers, and for some children this does not have the best effect on the development of their communication skills;
- It is difficult to separate the roles of parent and teacher, because the child wants to spend time with mom and dad once again, play, have fun and watch movies together, and not sit all day learning math.
Choose for yourself whether you want your child to be homeschooled. On the one hand, it is a flexible form of learning that will help develop the student's individuality. On the other hand, you need to assess your capabilities as a teacher and manager, as well as the child's needs in communicating with peers.
