Description of La Roche College

  • Location: McCandless, Pennsylvania, USA,
  • Year of foundation: 1963,
  • Number of students: about 1100,
  • Language of instruction: English,
  • Type of studying: mixed.

La Roche University is a private Catholic university offering more than 60 bachelor's degree programs, seven master's degrees, and doctoral degree programs.

The institution was founded in 1963 by the Sisters of Divine Providence organization. The main Christian commandments, traditions and postulates are still observed here today. This does not mean that this is a strict, closed educational institution. Today, students from all over the world can receive high—quality and prestigious American education here: of any nationality and origin, race and social status, religion and nationality. The school's motto is Engaging Minds. Embracing the World, which translates as "Attracting minds, embracing the world": It talks about the unique opportunities that students receive during their studies and which will be most useful to them for living in the modern world, a multicultural community.

The curriculum harmoniously combines intensive academic and extracurricular activities: in their free time, students can attend a variety of optional clubs, sections and communities (academic, sports, creative), engage in volunteer and charity work.

Educational process

Qualified employees from the career services, academic departments and other divisions provide students with comprehensive support from admission to graduation. Any student can request assistance in adapting their study plan to their goals, finding an internship or part-time job during their studies, organizing a special event, or arranging personal mentoring.

Accommodation, meals, prices

La Roche University has four large residences, each of which is designed to accommodate specific students.:

  • Bold Hall — freshmen,
  • Mahler Hall, Schneider Hall — students of senior courses, master's and doctoral programs,
  • Peters Hall — Masters in Medical fields.

All residential buildings are located within walking distance from academic buildings, offering students standard and luxury rooms for one, two or three residents. The bathrooms are mostly private. The residences have free laundries and many recreation areas, some have a gym.

There are dining halls and small cafeterias on campus offering students a variety of meals, from light salads and healthy snacks to full-fledged hot lunches, pastries and drinks. In order not to think about nutrition during the year, students usually formalize a fixed plan consisting of a certain number of meals per week + additional points for spending in university stores. Meal plans are available at all facilities on campus and apply to all meals, including diet, vegetarian, and gluten-free.
