Nursery, Preschool Department

  • Age — from 9 months to 6 years,
  • Duration of study — five years/

The Preschool Department includes two academic stages that divide pupils by age:

Nursery — 9 months–2 years

Younger pupils attend classes based on play and sensory exploration, creative activities, and interactive language learning, developing early cognitive, interpersonal, and motor skills. Daily immersion in English, Spanish, and Catalan promotes natural language acquisition and fluency. From the age of 2, children begin swimming lessons under the guidance of a professional instructor.

Infant School — 2 years–6 years

At this stage, children follow a thematic, project-based curriculum that develops early literacy, numeracy skills, scientific thinking, and creative expression. French and Chinese are studied to broaden language skills, while screen-free robotics and school radio projects foster problem-solving skills, sequencing, pattern recognition, communication, and computational abilities.

Despite minor differences in the curricula of these stages, pupils spend a great deal of time together: playing in outdoor areas, taking part in collaborative projects and discussions, and attending after-school clubs and activities. Children discover their individual talents through music, singing, painting, creative play, and hands-on learning — activities that improve their sense of rhythm, coordination, and fine motor skills. Extracurricular activities allow pupils to explore their interests in depth: sports, creative, communicative, and academic.

Primary School, Начальная школа

  • Age — from 6 to 12 years old,

In primary grades, students build on the knowledge gained at the previous academic stage and continue developing language skills: they study English, Catalan, and Spanish as core languages, with additional classes in French, German, Russian, and Chinese. Mathematics is taught in Catalan, while "creative" mathematics and natural sciences are taught in English. In grades 5–6, the study of chemistry, biology, and physics transitions to Catalan.

In addition to core subjects, students attend classes in physical education, performing and visual arts, music, swimming, robotics, and dance. The curriculum is practice-oriented — students create radio podcasts, books, develop web pages, curate their own art exhibitions, organize themed fairs, and tackle collaborative STEM challenges through projects.

High School: International Diploma

  •
  • Age — from 16 to 18 years old,
  • Duration of study — two years.

Obtaining an international diploma takes two academic years: during this time, high school students will complete an individual curriculum including six subjects and three additional competencies. The disciplines are studied at different levels: three — at the advanced level (HL), and three more — at the standard level (SL).

The subjects are grouped into six academic areas, and one discipline must be chosen from each:

  1. Primary language and literature: Spanish, English, Chinese,
  2. Foreign language: Spanish, English.
  3. Individuals and societies: history, economics, psychology, global politics, environmental systems and societies, philosophy,
  4. Sciences: biology, chemistry, physics, computer science,
  5. Mathematics: applications and interpretation, analysis and approaches,
  6. Arts: film, visual arts.

Three competencies, taught either in the format of extracurricular sections and clubs or presented as individual projects, will help build an excellent portfolio and showcase the strengths of each student.

  • Theory of Knowledge (TOK) — a written reflective work on the nature of knowledge,
  • Extended Essay (EE) — a written research paper of up to 4,000 words on a topic from one of the chosen subjects,
  • Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) — participation in the school's sports, creative, and social activities.

In the final academic year, students will face subject examinations and receive their diploma, after which they continue their studies at the world's leading universities.

High School: National Diploma

  •
  • Age — from 16 to 18 years old,
  • Duration of study — two years.

The Spanish diploma program, respected by universities in the country and abroad, offers students a direct path to obtaining prestigious degrees in medicine, law, economics, engineering, humanities, and other key disciplines. It provides a solid academic foundation within which students master core subjects while developing initiative, work ethic, and adaptability — qualities highly valued by leading universities and employers.

Students choose a science or humanities track, tailoring their studies to their academic goals. The curriculum combines Catalan and advanced English: core subjects follow the Catalonia program, while key modules, especially in the first year, are taught in English (e.g., world history and philosophy).

First-year subjects in the national baccalaureate program:

  • Catalan language and literature,
  • Spanish language and literature,
  • English language,
  • Philosophy,
  • World history,
  • Physical education.

Depending on the chosen track, students study mathematics, biology, physics, chemistry, Latin, or economics.

Second year of study:

  • Science disciplines: mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, technical drawing,
  • Humanities disciplines: Latin, Greek, economics, geography, art history.

Students receive qualified admissions support throughout both years of high school: they attend individual consultations and university fairs, and take practice tests to assess their knowledge.

Dual Diploma

  •
  • Age — from 13 to 18 years old,
  • Duration of study — five years.

The dual diploma program is widely spread around the world and allows students to obtain two official qualifications simultaneously: either a National Baccalaureate diploma with a US high school diploma, or an international diploma with the same certificate. The dual diploma gives students a competitive advantage when applying to elite American educational institutions and leading universities in Europe.

The course is available to students from grade 8, taught in parallel with the main curriculum. Starting early means fewer subjects per year, while those who join the course later can attend summer school classes to reduce the course load in their final year of study.

As part of obtaining the American high school diploma, students study four core subjects: the English language, US History, US Government, and Economics. They then choose two subjects based on their interests: digital photography, criminology, psychology, and others — these subjects introduce students to material not typically covered in the European curriculum.

The American diploma is issued online, allowing students to study at their own pace alongside obtaining their national/international diploma.

From a very early age, students are given the opportunity to study up to 5–7 languages: English, Catalan and Spanish, French, Chinese (Mandarin), German and Russian, while English remains the language of instruction for most subjects. This approach to children's development allows instilling important social and academic skills, preparing students for international education and a career in any country.

Another exceptional advantage of studying at La Miranda is its focus on developing digital skills: starting from the preschool department, children master new technologies and acquire skills for their proper, responsible use. La Miranda became the only school in Barcelona and the sixth school in Spain to receive Apple recognition.

By the end of the preparatory class, four more languages are introduced: French, Chinese (Mandarin), German, and Russian.
