Visa related questions

What is the reason for the high number of rejections for the British student visa? After all, many colleges and schools actively invite foreign students. Is the embassy not interested in international students?

A visa invitation from an educational institution, indeed, does not guarantee visa approval. The final decision is made by a visa officer. They will assess the likelihood of you violating visa rules both after completing your studies and during your studies. For example, whether you intend to reside in the UK, work without proper authorization, etc.

Can I arrange a visa for my child to Switzerland (student, long-term) with your help and not have to go to the embassy in person?

The Swiss embassy requires personal attendance when applying for a student visa. We will help you compile and translate the necessary documents, as well as schedule a convenient time for the interview.

If my child studies in another country, can I get a long-term visa to live with him?

Unfortunately, visa and border services do not provide such an opportunity. You can enroll your child in a boarding school, where he will live and be constantly under the supervision of a specialist. This way, you will be able to visit him at any time convenient for you (though the school recommends visits on weekends) by obtaining a regular tourist visa.

An exception to this rule is the United Kingdom. Here, parents of a child under 12 can stay with them on the basis of a temporary long-term visa, but on the day the student turns 12, this privilege becomes invalid, and the parent's visa ends.

I recently received information that if a child does not know English well enough, it is impossible to get a student visa for an academic year: you first need to take a language course, return to your country, and only after that apply for documents and a visa for the academic year. Is this true?

If we are talking about a British private school, then it is true. Since April 2011, the British government has established new rules (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies): a student visa for studying is issued only for a specific course at a chosen institution (this could be A-level, IB, GCSE, or other programs). In this case, a Child Visitor visa is issued, and only after returning from a language course is a Child Student visa issued.

I read that if a child studies at a Swiss international boarding school, their parents receive a visa for unlimited visits to Switzerland and the Schengen area for the same period. Is it true?

No, this is not possible.

Does the Swiss Embassy take your passport when you apply for a student visa?

If you apply for a standard Permit B, then no, your passport stays with you.

Recently, a few months ago, I was denied a U.S. visa because my sister has been living in America illegally for several weeks. Is it worth trying to get a UK visa (I'm planning to study in England)?

Most likely, if you properly complete all the necessary documents and prove your reliability and the legality of your intentions, the previous refusal will not serve as a basis for rejecting your visa application (especially since it was issued by another country).

I work as an English teacher and have repeatedly accompanied groups of schoolchildren to the United Kingdom for study and holidays. Recently, we planned a new excursion trip (three adults and six children) and arranged the documents through a travel agency. The documents were at the embassy for about two weeks, and just one day before the departure, we received a refusal – without any explanation. In this case, can we file an appeal? Is it possible to submit the documents again?

Currently, all reasons for refusal are provided exclusively in writing. It is this document that should be relied upon when making further decisions. It is possible that the visa officer was confused by your ratio of students to teachers. In any case, keep in mind that the appeal process is lengthy and may take several months, which means that the timing of the trip inevitably needs to be postponed.

An exception is made for students who have received a clear and definite invitation from the chosen educational institution, as well as for students who have already completed a preparatory course and studied for at least 3 months.

What are my chances of getting a UK visa if I have already had one refusal? The documents were submitted on November 2, and the refusal was received on the 16th – the officer was not confident in my reliability. The problem was that at that time I did not have my own bank account. I opened a current account and borrowed money from friends. I was assured that after obtaining a bank certificate confirming the satisfactory state of the account, I could withdraw the money (and repay the loan to my friends). So, I submitted the documents on November 2 (the money was in the account), and on November 7 I withdrew the amount and repaid my friends. The visa refusal is justified as follows: I opened the account on October 19 (which is true), but I withdrew the money on October 20 – which is false! What do you think can be done in my case, and is there still a possibility of getting a UK visa?

If you want to obtain a short-term visa to leave for studies, it is possible to get a visa by properly preparing the documents and opening an account with your own funds, along with providing convincing documents. Once again, carefully read the visa refusal document, it outlines all the details and conditions for obtaining a visa in the future.

Is it difficult to obtain a student visa for Canada?

A student visa is the main document required for admission to a Canadian university. It also serves as the basis for legal residence in the country.

Today, there are two types of student visas for Canada:

  • Temporary Resident Visa – for short-term programs up to 6 months (for single or multiple entries, issued in 2-6 weeks)
  • Study Permit – for long-term programs of 6 months or more (issued for the entire duration of study in the country + 90 days, which are given for departure from the country, visa extension, or transition to another type of visa after graduation, processed in 2-12 weeks)

It is important to note that you can only apply for a study visa after you have been accepted into a study program through one of the visa centers, and in some cases online through the official website of the country's government and the MyCIC system.

What documents do I need to submit to obtain a student visa?

  • foreign passport (+ copies of previous foreign passports with visas (if any)
  • copies of national passport
  • 2 color photos (3.5x4.5)
  • letter confirming enrollment in the program
  • visa application form
  • questionnaire containing information about the applicant's family
  • essay on why you want to study in Canada and what your choice of study program is related to
  • certificate from your place of work (if any)
  • bank reference (+ bank account statement)
  • documents confirming the connection with your country (property, marriage, children)
  • sponsorship letter (if someone else will pay for your studies)
  • notarized consent from parents to leave the country and consent from parents to provide care until the student reaches the age of majority (for students under 18).

In some cases, the Canadian side may request additional documents and information, and in rare cases, appoint an interview. All these documents must be translated into English or French.

The cost of a student visa to Canada is $150. In addition, during the application process, you will need to submit biometric data, which costs $85.

Sometimes applicants are denied a visa. In such cases, there is an appeal procedure to review the application.

After the application has been approved and the Study Permit has been issued, the student receives an invitation, which must be presented upon arrival. You must also have the documents that were submitted as part of the application with you: they will be reviewed at passport control and a student visa will be issued.

I had 2 refusals for a study visa to Canada. I am 34 years old and wanted to go for language courses. I had no plans to stay there. Does it make sense to go to England for a 3-4 week language course now? What are the chances of getting a visa? My family and work are here, I do not intend to immigrate.

Visa refusals for Canada generally do not affect the consideration of a UK visa. In our practice, there have been many successful applications for a UK visa after refusals for visas to Canada and the USA. To ensure a successful application, you need to prepare a complete set of documents, paying special attention to the bank statement and employment certificate. Additionally, the visa application form requires you to indicate any previous refusals — hiding this information could result in a 10-year entry ban. I have two children aged 9 and 13. I would like to consider sending them to school abroad. I am only looking at daytime schooling options, as boarding for both is expensive, and I am not yet ready to send them alone at this age. Is there any option for me to get a visa as an accompanying parent?

The only country that issues an accompanying visa to one of the parents if the younger child is under 12 years old is the UK. You can obtain a Parent of a Child Student visa based on your younger child's schooling. It is issued for one year and can be renewed each year until the younger child turns 12.

We are planning to obtain a student visa for our child to the UK. We have heard that there are some strict requirements for the sponsor's bank certificate. The child will attend a private school and will live there as well. Could you please specify again the points to pay attention to in the certificate to avoid a refusal?

Special attention should be paid to the amount of funds in the account: it must cover all expenses for the child's education, accommodation, and meals for a year (if it is a boarding school, the minimum amount in the account must cover the yearly cost of tuition and boarding). You can also pay the full cost of the school for the year. In this case, the school certificate will indicate that the year has been fully paid, and a bank certificate will no longer be required.

My husband and I officially work remotely in a company in our home country. Can we go to England for a year with our child (11 years old) if we enroll him in a British day school?

The UK issues accompanying visas if the child is under 12 years old. However, the visa is granted to only one of the parents. You can't go together.
