Escuela Superior de Diseño (ESDi) is the highest design school founded in Barcelona in 1989. The institution belongs to the prestigious Spanish university Universidad Ramon Llull, which is one of the most advanced and innovative universities throughout the country. University Ramon Lul is a leader in many areas, so the first introduces curricula, which then take over the rest of the school. So, ESDi is the first school where an educational course in “Design” was developed. After a while, the Academy of Arts and Fashion Technology was joined to ESDi.

ESDi University collaborates with more than 50 centers around the world - in Latin America, Asia, the Middle East and Europe: this makes it possible to exchange students and teaching staff between institutions and to develop research.

ESDi is part of the international Smart Cluster movement that brings together various academic institutions, start-ups and companies around the world to create innovative and creative solutions in the manufacturing industry. The university ESDi has its own initiative Smart Design program.

The bachelor's degree in design complies with the recommendations of the EHEA and enables students to gain access to the master's program or enter the international labor market. 120 places are available on the stream. To obtain a degree, students must earn 240 credits, which are distributed over four years.

During the first two years of the course, basic subjects are studied and general design education is given, but starting from the third year, students choose more than one of the narrower specializations:

  • Integrated multi-faceted design.

Master Programs

  • Age: from 21 years old

ESDi University Master Programs provide students with an opportunity to continue their education in one of the following areas:

  • Consulting and communication style and image
  • Management of the fashion and design industry
  • Management in the art of the audiovisual environment
  • Trends and style
  • Motorcycle clothing design.

At this stage, students are trained in a highly specialized curriculum under the guidance of teachers who have real experience in these areas.

Accommodation, housing and food

ESDi students are offered a student residence or private apartment rentals. Student residences are located in Barcelona, Sabadell or Terrasse.

The most convenient platform for finding private housing is Spotahome. To select the appropriate option, the university administration recommends future students to personally visit the proposed placement and only after that enter into an agreement and pay for the service.

Students can eat in the dining room on the campus of the university or in catering establishments located close to the academic building.

ESDi lives a rich life, not only in the field of academic studies, but also in extracurricular activities. The student association is engaged in organizing cultural and social events - young people who want to become part of the international creative community can learn more by contacting the Association.

During the year, intensive seminars and summer programs for various specialties are held for design students. These programs, organized jointly with the Academy of Art and Technology, are designed to give students new knowledge and inspire them to further explore the chosen direction.

The university has a consulting service for international students, which helps students with a variety of issues: from admission to residence in Barcelona. The task of the consulting service is to facilitate the integration of students from other countries as much as possible.

The academic year at the University ESDi is divided into two semesters: autumn-winter and spring-summer. Depending on this, students may submit applications for one of the semesters or for a whole academic year until April 15, or until November 15.

Applications received after the deadline for submission of documents are not subject to consideration and will be excluded from the list.

To be accepted as a student at ESDi University, foreign and Russian candidates need to prepare a package of documents:

  • Copy of the passport
  • 2 photos (send by e-mail or send printed out on the first day of classes at the university).

A separate requirement for students from other countries will be knowledge of the language: most of the ESDi programs are taught in Spanish or Catalan, so for study here you must have a level not lower than B2. In high school, programs are also available in English, but they are much smaller.
