Description of École de Technologie Supérieure (ÉTS) Higher Technical School

The École de Technologie Supérieure (abbreviated as ÉTS) is an educational institution of the state type, which has been active in scientific and academic activities in Canada since the beginning of the 1974. Now the university has its own campus in Montreal.

This is a small institution of higher education, where about 5,000 people study the course annually. The teaching staff of the university is about 400 teachers of the highest category. Students and faculty can apply to participate in exchange programs.

Educational process

Education at ÉTS is practice-oriented: the number of hours of practical work is almost equal to the number of hours of theoretical classes, and the program is supplemented by conferences, industrial visits, and real projects. The key element is an integrating project, within which students work on real applied science tasks.

For new international students, the Contact mentorship program is available — experienced students help newcomers with academic and social adaptation.

Faculties and colleges

ÉTS offers more than 80 academic programs, including 8 bachelor's programs and over 65 upper-cycle programs.

  • Bachelor's degrees in engineering disciplines,
  • University Technology Track,
  • Preparatory year for graduates of French lycées,
  • Certificates, short programs,
  • Integrated «bachelor's — master's» transition,
  • Master's programs,
  • DESS and doctoral programs.

Scientific achievements

The Formule ÉTS racing team has been designing prototypes for over 35 years and successfully competes in international engineering competitions. Based on 2024 results, the team ranked 1st out of 40 teams at the Pittsburgh Shootout, 1st out of 21 teams at the Toronto Shootout, and 16th out of 79 teams at FSAE Michigan.

Activities École de Technologie Supérieure (ÉTS) Higher Technical School

  • The PRÉCI group implements international humanitarian engineering projects — building schools and medical centers in developing countries (in 2025 — a school in Laos, in 2024 — a maternity hospital in Rwanda).

The institution trains sports teams called Piranhas, and the Génie+ community engagement recognition program has been established.
