• Some independent schools may require proof of ability to pay for tuition and related expenses,
• To enroll in GCSE courses, a student must first usually submit an application and go through a registration process, providing the necessary personal details and personal educational achievements,
• A passport, medical insurance, and copies of relevant documents are required.

The cost of taking GCSE exams in Spain can vary depending on many factors, including the chosen subjects, the exam venue, and additional preparation services or study materials. Typically, the cost per subject ranges from a few tens to a few hundred euros.

The educational path of GCSE is divided into four key stages, the last of which is Key Stage 4 (KS4), where students in Years 10 and 11, aged 14 to 16, study. In KS4, students primarily focus on GCSE courses, and the GCSE exams themselves are held at the end of Year 11.

GCSE stands for General Certificate of Secondary Education: it is the modern equivalent of the old O Levels and CSE, which were once familiar to many in the UK and Europe. GCSEs in their modern format were introduced in 1986, and the first GCSE exams were held in 1988.

GCSE schools in Spain determine for themselves the number of GCSE exams their students may sit — this can range from 7 to 12. In addition to the compulsory subjects of English language, mathematics, and science, students choose their GCSEs in Year 9. It is very important that they are able to select subjects that match their future career goals and interests. GCSEs are the most important exams students sit before entering college or university, and the results have a significant impact on students' futures. Many college courses require at least 5 GCSE passes at grade 4 or above (equivalent to a C or above in the old grading system). Some college courses only accept students with a grade 6 or above (A or A+) in the relevant GCSE subject, and universities often require a minimum of 4 passes (C or above) in English language, mathematics, and at least one science subject.

For practical subjects such as art, design and technology, or music, 60% of students' final exam grades are based on their coursework. The English literature result includes 40% of the final grade based on work completed in class or at home.

The Spanish education system still places more emphasis on rote learning and memorization, while being weaker in developing critical thinking and creativity. The British education system places greater emphasis on developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity skills. However, starting from the 2023–2024 academic year, changes are taking place in the Spanish ESO, and GCSE schools in Spain emphasize that they aim to move closer to the British version of the curriculum. The goal of these changes is to more actively develop critical thinking and reasoning in students so that they can apply knowledge in real-life situations, rather than providing simple theoretical instruction.
