The private nonprofit college offers a rich curriculum of 22 undergraduate and 11 graduate programs, is distinguished by interdisciplinarity, breadth of courses, commitment to social responsibility. Students study on two different campuses in the Bay Area, receive an immersive, interdisciplinary experience that focuses on theory and practice, helping them to gain the creative confidence, entrepreneurial skills needed for modern creative practice.

Founded in 1907 by Frederick Meyer, California College of Art is currently expanding its San Francisco campus with new student residences, a new building from award-winning architecture firm Studio Gang.

Accommodation, meals, prices

A new dormitory at the center of the CCA San Francisco campus, Founders Hall, is dedicated to bachelors with a gallery, community meeting space, cafeteria on the ground floor where students can adhere to their meal plan. Above, four floors are connected by an open-air courtyard, common areas, corridors with student rooms on either side. The compact spaces have pantries, beds, tables, a separate sink, toilet, and shower to minimize morning movements. The upper floor has single rooms for high school and graduate students, as well as a terrace overlooking the famous San Francisco skyline.

The Makers Cafe on the ground floor of the newest Founders Hall residence opened in fall 2020. The cafe is designed with the diverse needs of the campus community and neighbors in mind. With a seasonal menu and daily specials made with local, organic ingredients, hot and cold dishes to order, and fresh coffee, the cafe is in demand among students.

Activities California College of the Arts

Student organizations provide an opportunity to meet and communicate with students with similar interests, to gain leadership experience, and to practice new skills. Many clubs and extracurricular activities focus on different types of art, which provides ample opportunities for applying knowledge in practice.
