Description of Bu Ali Sina University Hamedan

Bu Ali Sina University Hamedan (abbreviated as BASU ) is an educational institution of state type that has been active in scientific and academic work in Iran since the beginning of the distant 1973. Currently, BASU University with its small campus is conveniently located within the boundaries of the city of Hamadan.

University is considered to be medium-sized, since here the course is about 15,000 people. In Iranian University Hamedan, about 400 teachers of the highest category conduct their professional activities.

Educational process

Admission of Iranian students is conducted primarily based on the results of the national entrance examination, which is held annually by the country's Educational Assessment Organization. 

The university invites leading foreign professors and researchers to teach senior-level students, developing international academic collaboration.

Faculties and colleges

The university structure includes 14 faculties:

  • Main campus: Natural Sciences, Chemistry, Humanities, Sports Sciences, Economic and Social Sciences, Technical and Engineering, Agriculture, Arts and Architecture, Veterinary Medicine,
  • Branch faculties: Technical and Natural Resources (Tuyserkan), Engineering (Kabudara­hang), Management and Accounting (Razan), Food Industry (Bahar), as well as the Higher Education Complex «Fatemiyeh» in Nahavand (for women).

The faculties of Chemistry, Engineering, Agriculture, Natural Sciences, and Humanities are considered the strongest in terms of scientific productivity and student enrollment. Education is available at the levels of vocational secondary education, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. For example, the Faculty of Arts and Architecture (founded in 2002) trains specialists in archaeology, fine arts (graphic arts, painting), philosophy of art, architecture, industrial design, and urban planning.

Scientific achievements

Bu-Ali Sina University is one of Iran's leading scientific centers. Nine faculty members and four alumni are included in the lists of the most cited and best scientists in the world. The university is particularly renowned for its scientific school of chemistry and the high citation rate of its staff's work, which has allowed it in recent years to enter the top one percent of the world's most productive universities.

The university has signed 45 memoranda of international scientific cooperation with leading universities in various countries. The strategic development plan until 1408 (according to the Iranian calendar) is aimed at transitioning to a model of an entrepreneurial and community-oriented university and entering the top 100 universities of the Islamic world and the top 1000 universities in the world.

  • The university is named after the great Persian scholar and physician Avicenna (Abu Ali ibn Sina); in Hamadan there are his mausoleum, as well as the mausoleum of the poet Baba Taher, the ancient settlement of Hegmataneh, and the Ganjnameh monument.
  • In the current academic year, approximately 1,000 international students from 29 countries are studying at the university.
  • The university operates an International Center for Persian Language Teaching for Foreigners, where approximately 700 students from 25 countries study in-person and online.
