Vassar College

Vassar College is a nonprofit private educational institution in America that first opened its doors to students in early 1861. Currently, the main building of the university is located in the small town of Poughkeepsie.

This is a fairly small educational institution, where no more than 3000 people can take a course each year. At the same time, the faculty of the institution is 300 teachers. While studying at the university, each student can apply to participate in the student exchange program.

Teaching is built on an individual approach: the student-to-faculty ratio is 8:1, allowing each student to receive personal attention. Students choose one of four paths to a bachelor's degree: a departmental concentration, an interdepartmental program, a multidisciplinary program, or an individually designed course within the Independent Program.

Research work is well developed at the institution — students participate in faculty projects in almost every department, and in summer three research programs (natural sciences, humanities, and arts) run for 10 weeks with a stipend.

Vassar offers a wide range of majors within a liberal arts education: 30 departments, 3 interdepartmental and 14 multidisciplinary programs, as well as an interdisciplinary Independent Program. In total, approximately 50 majors and more than 1,000 courses are available.

In addition to their primary major, students may choose a secondary course sequence. Accelerated, dual, and joint programs are also available, and study abroad is represented by more than 130 programs worldwide.

Vassar consistently ranks among the best liberal arts colleges in the United States. The college is known for its innovation in education: it became the first institution in the country to include an art museum in its original plan, the first to offer a bachelor's program in cognitive science, and one of the first to teach dramaturgy, psychology, and Russian language.

Vassar — a residential college, and life in the residences is an integral part of education. On-campus housing is guaranteed to students for all four years of study.

Each residential building is self-governed: management is carried out by student representatives, housing staff, and several faculty members living in the residences, often with their families.

The campus has its own dining system.

The college has 25 varsity sports teams, as well as a vibrant arts scene: exhibitions at Loeb Art Center, performances by the Vassar Repertory Dance Theatre, concerts and masterclasses by the music department in Belle Skinner Hall, film programs, and the annual MODfest festival.

Students have their own newspaper, Miscellany News, and a student government, Vassar Student Association. Many events are open to the public.

This is a higher educational institution, which in recent years has been consistently included in the list of TOP of the best international academic rankings.

High school students have access to literature from the college's large research library. For students, there is a hostel near the university building. The institution is a member of reputable research groups and associations, including the Liberty League and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

The academic year consists of two semesters.

College graduates successfully launch careers or continue their education: 94% of graduates are employed or continuing their studies. The Center for Career Education helps students achieve their career goals by supporting them in job searches, graduate school applications, and obtaining prestigious scholarships.

The admissions committee recruits applicants before the start of each academic year, taking into account the results of the exams passed by each applicant, past performance indicators. The enrollment in college is strict because here out of five applications, only one gets approved. Nevertheless, both locals and foreign students can always join the ranks of college students.

College tuition fees

As in most American universities, the academic year consists of two semesters. The most diligent students can always get back some of the cost thanks to the scholarship.

Vassar meets 100% of the demonstrated financial need of all enrolled students who apply for financial aid, throughout all four years of study.

About 59.1% of students receive financial support, and the average Vassar scholarship is approximately $56,900.

The college is a partner of the QuestBridge program, which supports talented first-generation students and applicants with low income.
