The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is developing fundamentally new areas of higher education. UTEP has become a national model for the creation and successful implementation of highly competitive academic and research programs, while retaining a deep commitment to serving the educational needs of the local population. The desire to provide access, an advantage to regional students, has led UTEP to become a leading research university with a Mexican-American majority of students.
UTEP officially opened in the fall of 1914 and is the second oldest institution in the University of Texas system. More than 25,000 students study here, and according to the classification of Carnegie universities, the university is considered a university of R1 level (very high research activity). This level includes only 130 educational institutions among 2,883 four-year US universities. UTEP serves residents of West Texas, southern New Mexico, northern Mexico: 80% of students are Hispanic, 83% are from El Paso County, 4% are Mexican citizens.

Attractive and affordable living conditions in El Paso, a wide range of unique cultural opportunities, beautiful countryside with mountains and deserts, plenty of sunshine, opportunities for outdoor activities - all this ensures a high standard of living.
Unique in its architectural style, UTEP objects were inspired by buildings in the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan. The campus of 420 acres accommodates modern educational buildings, equipped with everything necessary for research in chemistry, computer science, engineering, medicine, and patient care. On campus built a new student housing, parking, extended recreation center. The construction of a new interdisciplinary research building worth $ 85 million is scheduled for completion in 2020.
