The University of Nicosia School of Veterinary Medicine is a specialized school of the largest university in Southern Europe, offering a doctoral program in veterinary medicine.

The University of Nicosia (UNIC), which owns the school, is an outstanding institution of higher education taught in English. It has more than 12,500 students from 100 countries, creating a multicultural and diverse friendly atmosphere. The campuses of the university are located not only in Nicosia, but also in 18 other cities around the world.

UNIC opened the first medical school in Cyprus in 2011 and, based on this successful experience, is currently opening the first veterinary school in the country. The innovative and interesting curriculum, consisting of five years of doctoral studies, will provide students with high-quality knowledge and skills for professional development and successful career activities.

Academic classes will be conducted by experienced experts, many of whom lead large-scale research programs. The curriculum will focus on evidence-based medicine and One Health, as well as the development of diagnostic skills, critical thinking, and clinical problem solving. 

Students of the veterinary school are accommodated in the residences of the University of Nicosia. Three residential complexes - SIX, you and TRIANGLE - are located in one of the most attractive urban areas, within walking distance of the educational building and other UNIC buildings, in the neighborhood there are restaurants, cafes and supermarkets.

Residences offer students accommodation in rooms for 1-4 students, studios, apartments or private apartments. Residents are provided with many services and easy access to the facilities necessary for a comfortable life:

• Features of the rooms: private bathrooms and kitchenettes, balconies, air conditioning and heating, fully furnished,
• Common areas: self-study rooms, laundry room, relaxation areas, gym,
• Security: round-the-clock front desk, electronic entrance cards, video surveillance system,

Restaurants and cafes located on the territory of the university offer students a varied menu with hot dishes and cold snacks, drinks and sweets. Near the campus there are popular catering chains: McDonald's, KFC, Starbucks, Cafe Nero.

Students of the veterinary school program can participate in a variety of thematic clubs and associations together with students from other faculties and specialties. One of the most popular areas is participation in social activities for the protection of animals, volunteering and service - students visit shelters with pets, help on farms and organize charity events.

With a variety of on-campus and off-campus facilities, a wide range of artistic, recreational and sporting activities, students can enjoy university life and develop personal skills and interests.

• Close cooperation with the School of Medicine and other UNIC health faculties allows students to exchange experiences and receive a comprehensive education in the field of medicine,

The veterinary school's classrooms are located on the extensive UNIC campus, which includes 20 specialized buildings. Students have access to various study and relaxation spaces, including:

• Anatomy Laboratory: Designed for laboratory work, practical exercises, and projects. Modern Anatomage visualization technology is used here, providing virtual models of animals for interactive exploration of their anatomical structures.

• Library: Houses a vast collection of resources in the fields of veterinary science, medicine, and epidemiology. In addition to books, electronic access is available to an extensive collection of medical scientific databases, journals, and compilations.

• Biochemical Laboratories: Equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, technologies, and tools to support practical work. Students research biochemical processes using techniques like liquid chromatography (HPLC), spectrophotometers, PCR machines, and other setups.

Classes also take place at affiliated organizations:

• ARI (Agricultural Research Institute): A knowledge and innovation center affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment of Cyprus. The ARI National Farm implements animal genetics improvement programs. Students will be educated in all modern "phenotype-genotype" association methods and gain access to a vast amount of research data.

• Papapetrou Brothers Livestock Farm: A private farm specializing in livestock.

• Riverland Bio Farm: A certified organic dairy-based products production facility using modern technology. All objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs) involving livestock will be organized at this facility.

• Veterinary Services of the Republic of Cyprus: Provides access to diagnostic and research equipment and histopathological laboratories.

The academic year of doctoral students consists of two semesters. Classes are organized on weekdays, rest - on national and international holidays, holidays and weekends.

The teaching of the curriculum is divided into two components: full-time and part-time learning. Full-time education refers to all specialized disciplines, and part-time education refers to additional classes during the summer holidays.

The admission procedure consists of several stages:

• Filling out an online application and submitting documents,
• Payment of registration fees,
• Receiving an invitation for an interview, which can be done online,
• Registration of visa documents,
• Arrival on campus to complete admission: booking accommodation, applying for a scholarship, attending orientation events.

Graduates of the veterinary school achieve career success, as the curriculum of the program is based on many hours of practice. Upon graduation, senior students find a job almost immediately or within six months.

To apply for the Doctoral Program in the Veterinary School, prospective students should provide the following:

1. High school diploma with an above-average overall score and a bachelor's degree in a related field.
2. Academic transcripts, including grades in biology, physics, and mathematics.
3. Certificate demonstrating proficiency in the English language: IELTS (from 6.5), TOEFL iBT (from 79), or an equivalent.
4. Personal statement outlining future educational goals.
5. Personal documents: passport, medical insurance, visa, or residence permit for long-term studies in Cyprus.

The school has created a scholarship fund designed to help students partially finance their studies.

All applicants applying for admission in the fall will be given a 20% scholarship for the entire period of study, and they will be able to apply for an additional 10% scholarship depending on financial need to cover up to 30% of the cost of tuition per year.
