Educational process

Teachers adhere to the traditional academic system of the United Kingdom, but supplement it with their own methods and practices. Classes at Teikyo School UK are held in small academic groups that are divided by knowledge levels. Each student has a personal study plan: the list of compulsory subjects includes lessons dedicated to spoken English and writing. Thematic language lessons are allocated 10+ hours per week.  Additional electives available to students include lectures from invited experts. For example, in one of the trimesters, a professional beekeeper came to the teenagers for lessons: he told girls and boys about the everyday life of bees and their suitable ecology. Another format of academic classes outside the main program is Content Based Instruction: in these lessons, teenagers conduct scientific experiments and write research papers.

4 academic courses that Teikyo offers to its students:

  • A humanities course for teenagers who want to study subjects related to art after entering university. The main focus is on practical essay writing in English and Japanese.
  • A natural sciences or mathematics course.
  • Football programs, at the end of which students can obtain I and II level coaching licenses. Training takes place under the guidance of qualified English coaches. Young footballers actively train and represent the Teikyo school team in league and England Cup competitions.
  • The GCSE program in art and design is designed to give girls and boys the opportunity to explain and understand the artistic world around them. The course includes an in-depth study of textiles and fashion, providing students with key knowledge and practical skills.

Things to know about

A feature of Teikyo School UK residential halls is that each child has their own room, which they must take care of: clean, make comfortable and maintain the school’s property. Staff regularly provide students with fresh sheets and pillowcases. In addition to the bed, personal rooms include a desk, wardrobe and heater. In the girls' residence, the shower room is designed for two rooms, while boys have showers in each room.

All residences have common areas for relaxation and entertainment: for example, mini-cinemas where teenagers watch movies and dramas, and kitchen areas where they cook healthy snacks together.

Students enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner daily in the school cafeteria. It has a coffee machine, so teenagers can enjoy hot drinks and delicious cookies almost any time.
