The Taiwanese government has eased the conditions for hiring foreigners after studying in the country, simplified the requirements for permanent residence of students from other countries, in an effort to attract more talent. This became known during a briefing by the National Development Council. Now graduates of Taiwanese universities will be able to work freely on the island for 2 years after graduation without an additional work permit.
Previously, foreigners had to meet certain salary and qualification requirements + have a sponsor among employers.
From the beginning of this year, students who have completed a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree at universities in Taiwan will be able to undergo an accelerated review of applications for permanent residence. For holders of a bachelor's degree, the period of mandatory work experience will be reduced by 1 year, masters will reduce this period by two years, doctors of sciences will need 2 years of continuous work instead of 5. Graduates of the world's best universities have access to a two-year open work visa.
All these measures are aimed at attracting qualified personnel in the field of high technology, including artificial intelligence and environmentally friendly technologies.
In addition, the authorities have launched a new portal Talent Taiwan, which contains all the necessary information about visas, residence, work and conditions of stay of foreigners. In 2024, we have already launched a special scholarship program to attract more foreign students.
