There are 2 types of educational institutions in Geneva: public and private colleges.

- state colleges and lyceums are budget educational institutions. Only residents of the country can study in public schools.
- private boarding schools are accredited to admit foreign students, and in addition to the Swiss Maturité national diploma, they offer a number of the most popular international educational programs: IB, American High School, A-Level, French Baccalaureate and Abitur. Private schools usually have residences where international students can reside.
The cost of private boarding schools in Geneva averages about CHF 100,000 per year. The price includes tuition fees, accommodation, meals and basic program activities.
