English Language Course

The English Language Institute (ELI) at SHU offers high-quality English language instruction to international learners. As one of the few CEA-accredited Intensive English programs in the state of Connecticut, the ESL course maintains high standards to promote student achievement by providing up to 20 hours of in-person, evening, and online instruction.

The basis of the curriculum is the basic skills necessary for comfortable learning: reading, writing, speaking, listening comprehension. With the help of classroom communication, project work, interactive classes, students quickly assimilate knowledge and practice it more often in a supportive environment.

Pathway Program, Undergraduate Pathway Program

The Pathway Program is an introductory program for international students who are not yet ready for direct admission to undergraduate majors. The curriculum is aimed at students who speak English at the Advanced or High Intermediate level.
