Charterhouse Square School was founded in 1925, and in 2008 the school became part of Cognita, a worldwide group of schools founded by Chris Woodhead. The concept of the educational institution is to organize a family atmosphere: the students know each other from admission to graduation, become each other a real family. Most students keep in touch with teachers and go to school long after graduation.
The Buddy program works to adapt the students who have just arrived: each “new one” is assigned to a senior pupil who introduces the buddy to the teachers, the location of the necessary rooms in the school building, and helps with study.
At the end of the Charterhouse Square School, students become students of the best schools in London and the surrounding area: Channing, City of London School for Girls, Francis Holland (Clarence Gate), Godolphin and Latymer, James Allen (JAGS), North London Collegiate, Queen's Gate, Queen's College and South Hampstead.
The school leadership assigns a large role to the independent implementation of homework by students. Teachers do not control the availability of completed lessons, relying on parents with whom a preliminary conversation was held about the benefits and rules of completing homework.
At the Early Year stage, students are offered only in-game training. The youngest students occupy the green and red rooms. The main feature is training according to the program, which includes initial knowledge of those subjects that will be useful to kids in the future. For example, when studying the theme “Our body”, teachers immediately give knowledge of English (names of organs), mathematics (forms), colors, etc. Every day, children take a book home with them, read it with their parents, and the next day should come and tell them what they learned new.
Lower House - acquaintance with the main subjects: mathematics, English, natural sciences. Pupils occupy the blue and yellow rooms. The weekly schedule includes: literacy, numeracy, additional ICT lessons, Spanish, science, history, geography, dramaturgy, music, art and PSHE (psychological, social, medical and economic education). The study of general subjects begins a year earlier than in ordinary schools, which allows them to learn more carefully.
Upper House - directly preparing for entrance exams to school. In addition to all the subjects that children study at the middle level, sports are added: physical education, swimming, active games and tennis. Teachers are doing everything possible to mitigate the difficult period for children for preparation and admission to school.
