Description Moreton Hall Private School

One of the most famous, prestigious and successful British private schools, Moreton Hall works through a system of mixed education: girls (4-18 years) and boys (4-11 years) can study here. There is a spacious campus near the small cozy town of Oswestry: this is the historic district of the developed Shropshire county, almost on the border of North Wales and England. Getting to the international airports in Birmingham and Manchester is possible in just an hour, which greatly facilitates the children's transfer and travel.

The Morton Hall School was founded in 1913 by the Lloyd-Williams family and still belongs to their descendants, retaining their status as a private boarding school. Girls at school can complete a full cycle of school education, being in an educational institution from 4 to 18 years. And in 2007, on the campus basis, a kindergarten was opened for toddlers 1-4 years old - First Steps Nursery: it became one more division of the school besides the standard ones:

  • Moreton First: 7-11 years
  • Secondary school (11-13 years)
  • Senior classes
  • Sixth Form (15-18 years).

In addition, Moreton Hall employs a special International Educational Center for foreign students. Here, foreign students receive comprehensive support and assistance in adaptation: for them, there are separate cozy residences, a canteen, effective academic programs and interesting leisure activities. The center was opened in 2005 and every year receives up to 50 foreign students (both girls and boys): classes are conducted year-round, including holidays and weekends. For the needs of the Center there is a separate modern, fully equipped  building.

In general, the board is available to children from 8 years of age. There is also the option of a full board, which is customary for schools in Great Britain (children live and study on campus 7 days a week), a week or part board (children leave home or host families). According to statistics, the older the student, the more attractive and convenient for him the board: approximately 90% of the pupils of the senior classes choose a full board and permanently reside on the campus.

It is impossible to ignore the quality of academic education that gives Moreton Hall the right to be included in the list of the most successful educational institutions in the UK. Students demonstrate excellent results in the GCSE and A-level examinations, more than 90% of graduates enter the best British and world universities, including the Russel Group.

A secondary school program (typical of British schools) gives the right to receive a certificate of incomplete secondary education (General Certificate of Secondary Education) and to continue education in the senior classes (Sixth Form).

The students of the program study a very extensive list of academic subjects, most of which are compulsory. This diversity helps students to better understand their interests, abilities, inclinations, so that in the future (for example, on the A-level program), where you will need to independently form your curriculum, to make the right and reasonable choice. In general, more than 20 subjects (including electives) are available for study at the GCSE level. Teachers tend to form small classes - up to 15 people in each - to give each student the maximum amount of attention, track all successes and possible difficulties encountered.

A traditional British program for high school students of the Sixth Form level.

The course is designed for 2 years: this is an in-depth, thorough study of a small number of selected subjects. The A-level program is always quite difficult, but the results are worth it: most universities accept holders of good A-level certificates without entrance examinations, as they are confident in their "advancement", high level of knowledge and discipline.

The students choose independently subjects for personal curriculum, based on personal interests, inclinations, as well as the requirements of the future university and faculty. In the first year (AS-level) 4-5 disciplines are studied, on the second of them there are only 3-4 and already on them exams are passed, the results (points) of which are entered in the final certificate.

from 10 230 £ / year

The middle classes are devoted to studying the basic, key subjects of the school curriculum at a more in-depth, more complex level: the children begin to prepare for exams at the GCSE level. The natural-science course, which is taught in the lower grades by one block, is divided into biology, physics and chemistry separately. Great attention is paid to the study of foreign languages. Accommodation and food

The students of Morton Hall, who chose the full board, are housed in comfortable residences: the age principle (children live with their peers) and gender (boys and girls live separately) is taken into account when accommodating. Each residence is managed by a senior educator-housewife (housemistresses) and her assistants: they help children with the resolution of any issues, monitor the observance of cleanliness, order and discipline. In the rooms you can place your photos, bring your personal items and interior items, regularly celebrate the birthdays of boarders.

A separate house is provided for high school graduates: here is a more relaxed atmosphere that prepares students for the independence of university campuses. Senior students can manage their time themselves and build their day, prepare food and use laundry services, and give any amount of time to individual and group lessons.

Meals are organized by boarding house, three meals a day - a common spacious dining room is provided for this. Chefs of the school team try to make the diet as varied, tasty, healthy and nutritious as possible, and use mainly local, fresh products.
