Most beautiful railway stations in Russia

Most beautiful railway stations in Russia

When we travel by rail (and for Russia with its area and distances this is a common thing), our acquaintance with the city begins with the station. Today we will show you the 7 most beautiful, in our opinion, railway stations in Russia - already their kind of force to come to the city!

Yaroslavsky Railway Station, Moscow

Built in 1862, reconstructed at the beginning of the XX century (the author of the project is the "father of Russian Modernism" Fyodor Shekhtel). In his image and likeness, in 1912, the Vladivostok railway station was rebuilt, thereby emphasizing the unity of a huge country - they say, even the stations at its different ends are similar! This is also noteworthy because it is from Yaroslavl that the longest railway track in the world starts - the Trans-Siberian Railway.

Perhaps this is the most beautiful station in the capital, the real gate of the Russian North: neo-Russian style, northern modern, panels decorated with walruses, seagulls and polar bears, asymmetric structure.

Vitebsky railway station, Saint Petersburg

It was built in 1904: first it was called Tsarskoye Selo (because it was built for the Tsarskoye Selo Railway), then Detskoselsky, and only then Vitebsk. Franz Gerstner became the designer of the highway: for the 170th anniversary of the building, a monument was erected to him in one of the halls as a thank you.

This is the most cinematic station of our country: openwork wrought iron balconies and elevators, figures of oars on the clock tower, stucco, elegant lanterns and stairs, stained glass windows - here they filmed both "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" and "Station for Two" and much more, for which an exquisite nature was needed.

Main Railway Station, Veliky Novgorod

The exact date of construction of the old wooden station is difficult to find, but the new one has been in its place since the 1950s: the wooden one burned down during the Great Patriotic War.

During the planning and construction were inspired by ancient temples, because the white-stone building and resembles the royal chambers, pays tribute to the monuments of Novgorod and Pskov. By the way, even materials and technologies tried to use the same as the architects of the past! Styles - constructivism, neo-Russian, avant-garde. On the square in front of the station there is a bust of Alexander Nevsky: earlier it was replaced by Karl Marx, but in 1995 it was decided that Marx does not correspond in style - too modern.

Central Railway Station, Kazan

Opened in 1893, renovated in 1993. A large building of red brick is generously strewn with turrets, spires, elegant lanterns, openwork windows and even stained glass windows - do not let you not take the old castle! Inside, everything corresponds: ceilings 9 meters high, stucco and colorful ornaments, tons of granite and marble in the finish. The entrance is guarded by white leopards, the square is decorated with a fountain and elegant paving stones, and for dark Kazan evenings they thought out a nice lighting. Well done, Kazan!

Railway station in Simferopol

Do you sound familiar? He has a twin brother in Sochi! Simferopol was built in 1951, and just a couple of years later in Sochi repeated constructivist and design success.

This is a very light, airy, like a soaring station, which fits perfectly into the entourage of the southern, warm resort town. Large arches of galleries, a high clock tower, the dials of which are decorated with stars and zodiac signs, a spacious rotunda with a star and a long spire, a patio with a fountain ... The magnificent building in the style of Stalin's Empire is completely built of white Limestone inkerman, which only emphasizes its elegance and lightness.

Railway station in Krasnoyarsk

Traditional for Siberia, the magical old style in Krasnoyarsk seems to have reached its peak. A symmetrical complex of buildings, a large and beautiful central dome, decoration of marble and granite, colored stone slabs - a real palace, not just a station! On the station square, fountains murmur friendly (in the evenings they become completely musical), a beautiful stele with a heraldic lion rises.

Railway station "Slyudyanka"

But now you are probably surprised! Yes, this is not even a full-fledged station and certainly not a large city: it is a small station in the Siberian taiga, but it is from it that the path around Lake Baikal begins (200 km, by the way - The Circum-Baikal Railway, KBZhD). But this baby is the only one in the world that is completely made of marble! The project was created by the Italian Bondi (1902-1904 design and construction), and white and pink Baikal marble was used for construction. And unpolished: so the station fits even better into the surrounding landscape, does not look too licky.
