Dalhousie University, Halifax (Residential and Homestay) is the largest institution among the universities of the Maritime Province, which is part of the leading Canadian universities. On its campus, summer English language programs are provided for children from 10 to 17 years old.

Due to the comfortable conditions in education, accommodation and pastime, the courses are attended by students of many nationalities who come to Canada from Taiwan, Israel, Turkey, Japan and other countries. The teachers are native speakers, but they also speak several others, so there is an atmosphere of mutual understanding, friendship and comfort on campus.

The programs include most of the necessary services, so they are ideal for families who want to give their child a competitive language knowledge and an excellent summer vacation experience.

Accommodation, meals, prices

Students have the opportunity to choose the most comfortable accommodation option for them, staying in the residence of the university or staying with a host family. Students staying in the residence will live in mini-apartments, each of which is prepared:

  • Four single rooms,
  • Kitchenettes,
  • Living
  • Shared toilets and bathrooms.

Residents are provided with three meals a day according to the schedule, organized in the dining room. Meals are served in buffet format:

  • Breakfast: 7:00-10:00,
  • Lunch: 11:00-14:00,
  • Dinner: 17:00-19:00.

Homestay is a "home" option for those who would like to learn more about the culture of the local population, practice language skills more often and feel comfortable away from home. When choosing this type of accommodation, the following are offered:

  • Double rooms with single beds, personal workplaces,
  • Shared bathroom and toilet for the family,
  • Full board: breakfast, packed lunch for lunch, dinner.

  • Guardianship fee - $ 90 CAD,
  • Courier delivery of documents - $ 100 CAD,
  • Transportation and accompaniment of adults - $ 50 per day (only for schoolchildren under 13 years old),
  • Health insurance - $ 3.10 CAD per day,
  • Fee for late change of conditions of study (type of accommodation, duration or cancellation) - $ 110 CAD,
  • Taking the IELTS exam at the center of the Oxford International Language School.

Enrolment process

The process of admission to the summer course consists in registering and booking a place:

  • Filling out the registration form and providing personal data,
  • Receiving a positive response from the admissions staff,
  • Booking a place on the course – payment of a deposit of 20% of the total cost of the program,
  • Arrival on campus to take the entrance test, get to know the staff and faculty and start education.

Enrolment statistics

65 places for accommodation are available weekly in the residence and host families. Accommodation is necessarily included in the program, so employees do not have the opportunity to recruit more students than the number of places provided for housing.

Perspectives

Graduates of the course receive a certification confirming the progress of language knowledge - it indicates the initial and final levels, the number of hours of education and confirmation that the student has gained knowledge. This certificate will help students in applying to a school, college or university, as well as prove the level of English proficiency in obtaining a long-term visa.

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

Admission to the programs is open to students from 10 to 17 years old. The level of language skills at the admission stage is not important, since each applicant passes a small entrance exam for distribution into groups.

To enroll, you must provide personal information about yourself and your guardians:

  • Student visa or residence permit,
  • Contact information for parents or guardians.
