Although Antarctica has its own flag, it does not officially exist. The unofficial flag of the icy continent decided to use the emblem of the Antarctic Treaty, approved in 2002. The symbol is quite simple in execution: you can see the image of a white figure of the continent on a blue background. Now consider the options proposed for the role of the official flag of Antarctica.
Option One
Graham Bertrand, a designer, proposed a similar version of the flag, which is made on the basis of the UN flag: the image of Antarctica white on a blue canvas. The blue background shows neutrality. White indicates the eternal ice of the continent. Blue - the oceans that wash the shores (Atlantic, Indian, Pacific). If we turn to heraldry - the science that studies coats of arms - then white symbolizes pure thoughts, and blue is a symbol of greatness and beauty.
Option Two
There is another proposal: the flag of the true south, which is two dark blue and white stripes. It is a symbol of the long nights and days of Antarctica. The white triangle indicates glaciers and icebergs. He and his shadow form a compass arrow pointing to the flag of the true south. Two central forms form a diamond, which is a symbol of hope that Antarctica will continue to be the center of peace, scientific discovery and cooperation of people in the future.
Such a proposal has been widely accepted, and at the moment it is more official than the emblem. It was adopted by national Antarctic programs, expedition teams and individuals from around the world. It is used by cruise lines as a flag of courtesy in Antarctic waters.
Option Three
Whitney Smith proposed a bright orange background: such a flag will be perfectly visible in the snow, it will not be confused with other flags. The left part of the cloth is decorated with an emblem, which consists of several elements: the letter A indicates Antarctica, and its human hands are embraced, carefully holding part of the southern hemisphere - the place where Antarctica is located.
In the sets of emojis, by the way, the flag of Antarctica is included: this is just the option developed and proposed by Graham Bertram. Apparently, he fell in love with the developers.
Still, there is a good chance that the True South option will become a leader. This is evidenced by his recognition among many people and groups.
