Description of Belmont House Private School

  • Year of foundation: 1926
  • Location: Scotland, United Kingdom
  • Age of students: 3–18
  • Number of students: 300
  • Language of instruction: English
  • Type of education: mixed school.

When choosing a school, parents are often looking for something special for their child. Belmont House is convinced that the most important criterion for success is acceptance and respect for children: here they value all children as they are. This is made possible by the compact size of the school (no more than 300 pupils) and the class (an average of 12 to 15 pupils). Thus, all children receive personal attention and participation, which is necessary for qualitative growth not only in the academic sphere, but also in sports, music and art, serving as a guarantee of comprehensive development and self-confidence.

The school prides itself on a cohesive, inclusive school community, where pastoral care is combined with a well-thought-out mentoring system; all students will receive their share of recognition and respect with equal opportunities for self-realization. No one will remain for teachers and administration just a line in the exam sheets.

The school's safe and accessible location allows the school to provide quality independent school services in central Newton Mearns. The school is easily accessible from the southern part of Glasgow.

Belmont House was founded in 1929 as a preparatory school for boys. Initially, the educational institution was located in the Giffnock quarter, but in 1934 the school moved to Bruma, to a mansion, where it is located to this day. Since 1977 it has become a comprehensive school, and in 2000 - a school of joint education.

The school's motto, Strenue sed Aeque (translated as "strong but fair"), was introduced by the school's founder, Gerald Arnold Montague Dale, and still underpins the values and life principles the school promotes today, based on loyalty, cooperation, a sense of identity, individuality, respect and responsibility. The school offers all students, without exception, opportunities to realize their potential in conditions of care, respect for religious and ethnic characteristics, understanding that the school path of each student forms the basis for the rest of his life, which makes it especially important to discover talents and skills early.

Things to know about

For more than 20 years, the school has competed for the Duke of Edinburgh Award. In the 2021/2022 academic year, there were 65 students within the walls of the school who were at different stages of passing the sections of the award, 6 students began to the Gold level.

The Duke of Edinburgh Prize is a prestigious award based on several basic principles: volunteering, craftsmanship, physical activity and expeditions (hiking). Students independently go through each stage: as a rule, we are talking about several hours of classes per week for several months.

The award program is subject to the guiding principles: accessibility, voluntariness, personal development, lack of competition, balance of interests, progress. Working within the program requires commitment and dedication, but at the same time it is fun.

Despite the fact that students must act independently, they are under the supervision of coaches, teachers and administrative staff who can help with advice, monitor achievements and contribute to a sound and sober perception of personal progress, proper goal-setting, self-control.
