Albyn School is a private high school that provides full-cycle secondary education for students from 2 to 18 years of age: in the format of full-time education or with full board.
Initially, Albyn School was an institution founded in 1867 only for girls, and over 150 years of work has become an independent co-educational institution, one of the leading in Scotland. Currently, Albin School does not cease to develop and expand its territory, opening new laboratories and other buildings.
Today, the educational structure of the school includes the following levels of education: several educational departments at the preschool stage, junior and high school. At each of the last two levels of secondary education, Albyn School students spend 6-7 years.
The preschool department of Albyn School is formed of three levels:
This department is for the youngest students aged 2-3 years. At this stage, it is especially important to create comfortable adaptation conditions for children, so study days are required here.
Education in kindergarten is designed so that the child will take part in activities aimed at stimulating the imagination and key skills. This can be applied art, puzzles, baking, creative games, physical exercises and active games. Once a week, children have music lessons, and a small reporting concert is held for parents and employees in the final semester.
The cost of staying in the preschool department will be based on the length of the day: from 8 to 13 hours, from 8 to 15 hours, from 8 to 18 hours. Price starts from £ 6,757 for one academic year.
The next stage of preschool education is pre-school education for children a little older than a day nursery (3-4 years). At this stage, the program includes both already familiar activities (applied classes, puzzles, outdoor games), as well as more advanced ones (baking, gardening, theater, science, computers and IT).
All classes are presented in a more complex version in order to gradually prepare students for training in the junior high school. In order to understand who is already ready for the new stage of education, teachers watch the children from April to June - communicate with them and make the final conclusion about the transfer.
The level of pre-school education with preparation for entering the primary grades of Albyn School secondary school for students aged 4-5 years. The daily curriculum is similar to Ante kindergarten, but the emphasis is on preparing for the first grade. Available activities include soccer and ballet.
The cost of staying at the last stage of pre-school education will depend on the length of the school day, which parents will choose for the child:
The first grade of primary school is aimed at a smooth transition from the preschool stage to secondary school - children are introduced to the daily routine and academic subjects at basic levels:
From the 2nd to the 7th year of elementary school, students gradually progress in the subjects studied, learning to read, write, mathematical operations and knowledge in the field of natural sciences.
The first two years of study at the senior department of Albyn School (Upper 1-2), students study a very wide range of subjects:
In the next two years (Upper 3 and 4), children already have the opportunity to choose 8 subjects for passing the certification exam - National 5 or GCSE. To do this, they need to choose disciplines from different categories:
Starting from the 5th year of study (Upper 5), senior students are already preparing to graduate and pass the exam for a British secondary school certificate. To do this, they must choose 5 subjects from the already familiar list of disciplines - they will study them at level A of the classic British high school program. In addition to academic subjects, students take part in personal and social education, games, and PE.
In the sixth and final year of study (Upper 6), students must choose to study at least three subjects to obtain an A-level. In the final class, the educational emphasis shifts from studying in a group to self-study - during this time, students work on research projects.
For students who choose full-board tuition (i.e. accommodation), a 3-story Victorian-style residence is offered on the Albyn School campus. There is a living room, a winter garden. The living rooms themselves have a private bathroom and the necessary furniture for each of the guests (bed, desk, wardrobes and bedside tables). When living in a residence, the price includes meals.
The food Albyn School offers its students is a healthy diet with a variety of dishes. Since the school has its own cook, which prepares for children, the local cuisine is ready to adapt the menu to the dietary or allergic needs of students. For breakfast, fruit, toast, pancakes or cereals are usually offered, for lunch and dinner - a choice of soup, bread, and the second (fresh fish or meat). For an afternoon snack - jelly or yogurt.
Cost of living (year): Full board - £ 31,445; Full-time - £ 29,200.
Albyn School has a very well thought out and implemented extracurricular activity of children - for each age group different classes are offered that correspond to the skills and physical abilities of the students.
In addition to the existing sections and circles, in their free time, children and adolescents participate in recreational activities on the school grounds or make excursion trips: for example, to the Aberdeen Science Center or for mini-hunting in the Hazlehead park.
The Albyn School campus is located in the northeast of Scotland, in the city of Aberdeen, which bears the unspoken title of the oil capital of Europe. The school is located in the western part of the city: buildings on the campus are a harmonious ensemble of traditional 19th-century mansions and modern technological buildings. Albyn School infrastructure includes:
Thanks to its central location, students also have access to the city’s sports facilities: for example, Aberdeen Sports Village, Aberdeen Winter Sports Center, award-winning golf courses and River Dee boat station.
