We analyze the pros and cons of working while studying

Most students who enroll in full-time bachelor's programs are in no hurry to get a job, especially since some study on a state-funded basis. But do students need to work while studying?

Not everyone can afford not to work while studying, besides, many grew up in low-income families. Then young people have to find a part-time job and go to shifts before or after classes. However, it is too early to be upset, because there are a number of advantages in this:

  • Work in the specialty. You can find a part-time job that is related to the specialty in which the student is studying - this way you can understand whether you like the field in which you will have to work after graduation and plus get a full-time job in the company;
  • Free money: it can be used to pay for tuition if a student studies commerce, buy new things, travel and help parents;
  • Learn time management. Already as a student, you can set priorities and understand what you want, learn how to competently build time for what is important;
  • Find connections. Another plus: you can get acquainted with those who will help you later with work and internship.

On the other hand, there are, of course, disadvantages:

  • The student will be very tired. It is very difficult to work and study at the same time: you need to focus on your work duties, and then sit in classes, make reports and write a term paper, and maintain tone and concentration everywhere;
  • There will be almost no time for hobbies and friends. The student will be busy all the time, spend quite a lot of time on the way to work and study, so there will be meetings with relatives may become rare;
  • At first, a working student may not do what he wants: young people do not always work in the specialty for which they are studying, but they still gain skills that will be useful in the future;
  • Risk of burnout. Due to the lack of sleep and constant tension, you can burn out emotionally - then there will be no energy left for important things, even your favorite hobbies will only be a burden.

Of course, a student's parents must honestly tell him whether they will be able to provide for him when he turns 18. If mom and dad are not ready to give money to a teenager and pay for his studies, then you need to think about where he can get a job so that it does not interfere with his studies.

Those whose parents are ready to provide for the child, even if he continues his studies in master's and postgraduate studies, are much lucky. But young people also need to understand that someday they will become adults and then they will have to earn money themselves – they must come to this realization on their own or with the help of their parents.

Do you think a student should work at the same time?
