Universidad de Alcalá (UAH) is one of the most popular institutions of higher education in Spain. The institution has a state ownership. The beginning of the academic activities of the University of Alcala was laid back in 1499. The university campus is located in Alcala de Henares.

The historic campus is also home to the university's research institutes and centers: Alcalingua (a Spanish language center for foreigners), the International Center for Financial Training, the Cervantes Studies Center, the Institute of Educational Sciences (ICE), the University Research Institute of Police Sciences (IUICP), the Benjamin Franklin University Research Institute of North American Studies, the Institute of Business Management and Organization (IDOE), and the Institute of Latin American Studies (IELAT).

Foreign students can book accommodation in advance in university residences, with host families, in apartments, hotels, or hostels in Alcalá de Henares and Guadalajara.

The San Ildefonso residence is located in the historic center of Alcalá de Henares, in the Patio de Filósofos courtyard of the old university building, and has 39 rooms: 12 double rooms, 26 single rooms, and one suite. Each room has a private bathroom, TV, heating, and a satellite dish. In the Patio de Filósofos courtyard there is a café-restaurant open Monday through Friday, except on holidays.

The Lope de Vega student residence is located in the historic center of Alcalá de Henares — a UNESCO World Heritage site — within walking distance of the faculties and 3 minutes on foot from Plaza de Cervantes. It is the only residence built specifically as student housing in the city center. The cost of accommodation includes a restaurant with full board 7 days a week, high-speed internet and Wi-Fi, weekly cleaning with linen and towel changes, all utility payments, a private bathroom and air conditioning in every room, round-the-clock security and video surveillance, an electronic access key, mail and parcel reception, maintenance, copying services, and laundry. The residence grounds include more than 3,000 m² of common spaces: an open courtyard, a games room, sports areas, a conference space, study rooms, and a gym.

This educational institution is large - up to 24,000 students at the same time receive education here. The educational services of this university are available not only to local young people, but also to guests from abroad (the proportion of foreign nationals who receive education here is rather high and makes up about 25% of the total number of students).
