In later years, children develop sight-reading skills and begin to read simple text.

Early writing skills begin with the development of fine motor skills, especially "pincer grip". Students develop pencil skills through scribbling, coloring, and drawing. Once they have mastered the use of a pencil, students will learn how to write letters with an emphasis on direction.
