The branch was established in 1962 in the city of New Zlatoust.

The learning process includes a course of lectures and seminars, practical and laboratory classes, educational and pre-diploma practice.

The educational process is organized in the following departments:

• Mechanical engineering technology, machine tools and tools,
• Industrial and civil construction,
• Equipment and technologies for the production of materials,
• Mathematics and Computer Engineering,
• Electrical equipment and automation of production processes,
• Economics and Law,
• Social and legal sciences and humanities.

On the basis of the branch, the All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference of Graduate Students and Young Scientists was held: "We bequeath to future generations: to do good in defense of law", in which university students took 2nd place in the section of international law and first place in the section of TGP.

SUSU is included in the QS ranking of the best universities in the world.

The university does not provide dormitories for nonresident students, but it provides assistance in finding housing for hire.

For meals for students and staff, the university has a canteen for 140 seats.

To involve students in social and scientific activities, the university organizes and takes part in the following events:

The education process is conducted in 4 educational buildings, equipped with classrooms for lectures and seminars, practical and laboratory work. The classrooms are equipped with modern technology: projectors, screens, computers and video and audio equipment. The practice rooms have the following specialized resources:

• Collections of minerals and rocks,
• Optical level,
• Optical theodolite,
• Manual anemometer,
• Ultrasonic thickness gauge,
• Laser rangefinder,
• Vertical milling machine,
• Automated stand for roughness measurement,
• Tensile testing machine for metal testing R-20.

Students are given access to a library with a reading room for 100 seats.

For sports, the branch provides a gym. 

In the branch, the academic year is divided into two semesters: autumn and spring. At the end of each of them, an examination session is held, after passing the students, they are given vacations (in winter in January, in summer in July and August).
