Specialized Academician M.A. Lavrentieva at Novosibirsk State University (SSTC NSU) offers high-quality specialized education for high school students. It was opened at NSU on August 23, 1963.
On the basis of the center there is the Physics and Mathematics School of NSU (FMS) - an educational institution with in-depth study of natural science subjects for students from grades 9 to 11, which is based in the Novosibirsk Academgorodok. PhMS at NSU is one of the four specialized educational and scientific centers of the Russian Federation, which are known around the world. In such institutions, high school students receive first-class education in the field of natural, technical or humanities.
The purpose of creating such a school is to identify adolescents who are inclined to study such subjects as mathematics, physics, chemistry or biology. Also, the school's tasks include creating a comfortable environment for the development of students' creative abilities, interest in scientific activity, independence and responsibility.
Each year, FSM NSU accepts 500 students each, who send applications from 60 regions of Russia with the desire to immerse themselves in a unique scientific environment that is directly related to various experiments, studies and new achievements. First-class teaching staff, which includes leading researchers of the Novosibirsk Scientific Center and scientists of the SB RAS, helps to get a really high-quality education and useful skills for the students of the center. Here, more than 50% of teachers have a degree: 24 doctors, 98 candidates of sciences, 19 professors, 83 associate professors.
Over the years of the successful work of the specialized educational and scientific center, several thousand schoolchildren have gained access to the world of science: 95% of graduates after completing their studies successfully enter the country's leading universities. FSM NSU is secretly called "Siberian Hogwarts" by analogy with the school for gifted wizards from the "Harry Potter" universe.
Education can begin for students from grades 8 to 10. There are two 9 classes, eight 10 classes and twelve 11 classes on the stream. Classes are formed of 20-25 people, which are divided into two groups so that teachers can take time for each student during the seminars.
SUNC NSU offers its students three profiles for training:
The training format is built on the system of higher education: the guys listen to lectures to gain theoretical knowledge, and practice at seminars. The weekly training schedule is as follows: classes of 6 days a week, every day three pairs in the morning. In the afternoon, students will receive special courses in specialized subjects depending on the class: mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, computer science, history, literature, foreign languages or others. Within the framework of special courses, each student must choose 1 humanitarian and 1 natural science subject for six months.
Summer School is an annual educational program at the end of August, which attracts up to 700 students from 8.9 or 10th grade from all over Russia and the CIS countries. Such a summer program is a mandatory stage of selection for admission to the physics and mathematics school of NSU.
Here, students passionate about physics, mathematics, chemistry, biology and engineering design, learn about modern scientific achievements in these areas and try their hand at solving original problems. In addition to the academic achievements in LS, students will be able to feel the atmosphere of the university, to prove themselves in a busy academic life, to make new friends and like-minded people.
The educational process of LS is divided into three stages:
It all starts with the olympiads - students take part in at least two: necessarily in mathematics, and optionally - physics or chemistry. Additionally, you can choose biology. Successful participation in this stage will allow those who did not receive an invitation to study to nevertheless get into the ranks of students of LS.
Education in the LS is organized by flows: general for 8-graders, physical-mathematical or chemical-biological for students in grades 9-10. All classes are held on a schedule, include lectures from leading scientists of the Academgorodok, workshops with practical skills. For the last students, they are divided into groups of 12-14 people. In addition, you can choose to attend classes in engineering design in the afternoon.
At the end of the course, each student of the LS passes final tests in mathematics, physics or chemistry (sometimes biology), which are also part of the entrance tests for admission to the SSC of NSU. In each of the subjects there is a written examination, and then an oral interview.
There is a correspondence school for students from grades 5 to 11 on the basis of SSTC NSU, where pupils or applicants are invited who want to deepen their knowledge, prepare to pass the exam or exam or prepare for training at the SSC of NSU and receive an invitation to the Summer School at the training center .
Correspondence education is available in 7 subjects: mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, geology, Russian and English. Depending on age, students study in different departments:
Training can take place in one subject or in several at the same time. This is a year-round format, so you can start at any time. The educational process includes three stages:
To enter the correspondence department, candidates need to send an application for training, fill out a questionnaire and contract, send the necessary documents, and then pay for training - plus you will need to complete the first tasks of the selected subject department.
One of the short-term programs of the SSC of NSU, aimed at intensive preparation of students from grades 6 to 10 for olympiads (in mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer science). For 11 days, students receive knowledge on key topics that are necessary for successful participation in the regional or final stages of the All-Russian Olympiad for students.
In addition to the academic part, the program also includes cultural and entertainment: visiting sites such as the Novosibirsk Zoo, the Central Siberian Botanical Garden, research institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences and more.
The selection for the shift is based on the results of the olympiads of the list of secondary schools in specialized disciplines. An application for participation in the summer olympiad school must be submitted before April 30.
The faculty of the NSU: physical and natural sciences of the NSU, as well as the SSC of the NSU have already become the school’s organizers 5 times. The August school of olympiad training is aimed at intensive preparation for the stages of the All-Russian Olympiad - regional and final. So that for a period of 10 days, schoolchildren get the maximum benefit, the course program is focused on specialized classes and seminars in several areas: physics, chemistry, biology, programming.
Every day, study at the August School starts at 9 a.m. and lasts until 5 p.m. with a lunch break. Lessons are held in the classrooms of the SSC or in the laboratories of NSU. The sixth day of training is a day off and is dedicated to the cultural and entertainment program:
Special courses in subjects is a program of additional training in the chosen direction. The duration of training in a special course is on average one year, but may vary depending on the subject.
In FMS, the list of disciplines for additional study is distributed in the following areas:
The training program at the SSC of NSU has been operating since 1997 and is aimed at increasing knowledge of natural disciplines among schoolchildren. Preparatory courses are led by professional teachers and scientists. Lessons in subjects - physics, mathematics, chemistry - take place once a week: a three-hour lesson includes one pair to study new material + academic hours to answer questions.
Such a training program is intended for high school students who want to obtain the necessary academic knowledge for ambitious educational goals:
Students in grades 10 and 11 can choose one of the departments for study: mathematical, physical, biological or chemical. The preparatory course will systematize existing knowledge on the subject and fill the knowledge gaps. The curriculum goes from solving simple problems to buildings of increased complexity. Classes are held in groups of 10-15 people under the guidance of teachers of the training center, who know the requirements of the Olympiads and the Unified State Examination, have an impressive experience for working with schoolchildren. One to two classes are held each week.
Winter short-term program of the center of the SSC of NSU: students from classes 9th to 11th who are winners or prize-winners of city, regional or regional competitions, including the All-Russian, or who were the best students of the correspondence school of the SSC of NSU are invited here.
Beginning physicists will be able to work in modern laboratories at NSU or RAS institutes under the guidance of teachers, most of whom have academic degrees. In the course, high school students will see physical experiments and will be able to practice conducting modern scientific experiments.
The five-day winter program also includes a rich entertainment part:
To participate in the program, everyone should register on the SUNC website before November 1. Education at school is free by invitation, in other cases - 14 thousand rubles.
SUNC NSU is located on the campus of NSU, and all participants in the secondary school, including residents of Novosibirsk, live in a boarding school for the academic year. So the guys get a complete immersion in the curriculum and extracurricular program, which takes place at school. Pupils can prepare for classes together, learn to plan time and distribute strength.
Children are placed in a dormitory on the territory of the town, which are of the block type: in one block there are 2 rooms and a bathroom - 2-3 people live in each room. On the ground floor there is a shower. In addition, the hostel has wireless Internet access, a laundry room where you can wash clothes. Every Wednesday bed linen is changed.
The hostel and the educational building of the secondary school are interconnected by a transition underground, so you can get to school without even going outside.
Students are offered 5 meals a day in the canteen on the territory of Akademgorodok at SUNC NSU - it is literally a couple of minutes walk from the educational building or dormitory.
FMS participants are offered a variety of leisure activities - in SUNG NSU there are various sections in sports or creative areas. The first takes place in the sports complex of NSU, which is located here on the campus. In their free time, students can visit excursions, museums, theaters of Novosibirsk, institutes of the SB RAS and other interesting places.
