St. Petersburg State University of Civil Aviation was founded in 1955 on the basis of a resolution of the Council of Ministers of the USSR. 

St Petersburg University of Civil Aviation conducts targeted recruitment for the aviation industry. Among the customers: FSUE "State ATM Corporation", PJSC "Aeroflot", AK "Rossiya" and other airlines and organizations.

Educational process

The weekly classroom load of cadets does not exceed 36 hours, the maximum amount of training load of cadets does not exceed 54 hours per week.

In 2021, 14 works were submitted from the university to the annual competition of research works of students and young scientists of the transport industry, held by the Federal Air Transport Agency, 3 of which were recognized as winners in their nominations, 2 works took second place, three more works took third places.

The development of student science at the university goes in different directions. In particular, at the moment the Creation of the Center for Experimental Aerodynamics on the basis of the Motor Test Station is underway. The Center for Experimental Aerodynamics is formed on the initiative of students of the Faculty of Flight Operations. 

Things to know about

During the period of its activity, the university has trained about 40 thousand managers and highly qualified specialists for civil aviation.

  • Rolandas Paksas, President of the Republic of Lithuania for 2003-2004;
  • 21 heads of the main departments and administrations of the central apparatus of the Moscow State Aviation Administration of the USSR, other federal bodies of state administration of air transport;
  • 52 heads of territorial (district, regional, interregional) departments of the Civil Aviation, as well as educational institutions of the Civil Aviation. 

More than 5,000 graduates became heads of aviation enterprises, airlines and airports, about 2,000 - heads of divisions and air traffic control services. Thousands of graduates were awarded government awards and badges, more than 200 were awarded the honorary titles "Honored Pilot", "Honored Navigator", "Honored Transport Worker". 32 graduates were awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union, Hero of Socialist Labor, Hero of Russia. 

The University actively cooperates with foreign countries and educates foreigners. The geography of students studying at the university is extensive - currently citizens from more than 25 countries are trained at the university. The main contingent consists of representatives from the CIS countries - these are citizens of Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Ukraine, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and from foreign countries - these are citizens of Algeria, Mongolia, Angola, Egypt.

Accommodation, meals, prices

The total area of dormitories at the university is 39,380.7 m2. All nonresident students living in the hostel are provided with places at a rate of at least 6 m2 per person. 

Student rooms are equipped with standard furniture, bed linen is provided (weekly change). 

In the UZHK of the university there is a passport office. 

Students (cadets) of St Petersburg University of Civil Aviation, studying on a budgetary basis, are provided with three meals a day. The dining room of the university occupies three dining rooms with a total area of 480.1 m2, for 264 seats. In the dining room, meals are organized for students, teachers and administrative and managerial staff on two distribution lines: for students of budget faculties and a free choice of dishes. FLE students eat a weekly set menu: a wide range of dishes varying by day of the week, here are affordable prices.

Activities of the educational work of the university are carried out through the activities of the following units:

Creative teams of the university are regular participants in the city competition "ART-STUDIYA", the inter-university festival "Silver Anchor", "Spring Accord". 

The club, together with the Student Council and the Council of University Veterans, with the support of the trade union committee and the rectorate, traditionally annually holds cultural events:

  • dedicated to the Day of the Lifting of the Siege of Leningrad;
  • dedicated to the Day of the Defender of the Fatherland;
  • competition among students "Conqueror of the Sky";
  • international women's day on 8 March;
  • a festive concert dedicated to the Day of Civil Aviation;
  • dedicated to Victory Day;
  • graduation parties;
  • dedicated to the Day of Knowledge;
  • "Job Fairs", in which representatives of airlines, airports, ATM units take part;
  • an annual reporting concert of amateur artists dedicated to the New Year, and a festive New Year's performance for the children of university employees;
  • annual competition of professional skills of ATC dispatchers;
  • annual talent competition among employees of the State ATM Corporation; 
  • annual competition of professional skills "Transport Leader" among students of the University;
  • annual Open House Day. 

Considerable attention at the university is paid to sports and physical culture and recreational work, the fulfillment of the GTO standards, there are sports sections:

  • volleyball (men's and women's teams);
  • basketball (women's team);
  • mini-football (men's team);
  • tennis;
  • swimming. 

Students of the university annually participate in the championship of universities of St. Petersburg, the championships of the Moskovsky district, the Spartakiad of transport universities of the country "TranspArt".

The total area of the university premises is 55 474 sq.m, on which the following are located:

  • 116 classrooms;
  • 64 laboratories;
  • 5 language laboratories;
  • 20 computer classes.

All laboratories and classrooms are computerized, equipped with modern and specialized equipment and licensed software, have access to the Internet.

The facilities of the university are equipped with automatic fire alarms and an evacuation warning and control system. At all facilities of the university there is security, on the fence installed along the perimeter of the territory there are checkpoints. In 2015, a system of monitoring, video surveillance and security of the property complex of the university was put into operation.

To ensure flight training, the university has training aircraft, complex and specialized simulators, and other technical means. 

The university's training aircraft fleet includes 64 Diamond DA40NG aircraft, 21 Diamond DA42NG aircraft, 36 Cessna 172S aircraft. Currently, these aircraft are based and operated in BLUGA , a branch of St. Petersburg State University of Civil Aviation, Bugulma Airport, Begishevo Airport, Orsk Airport.

Students of the university are served by a library located in two educational buildings with a total area of 1082 sq.m. For the convenience of students' classes, a Wi-Fi zone is organized in the reading room of the library.  The library fund currently amounts to 711,135 copies. For the manufacture of blank and book products, the university has its own printing house.

The University has the following material and technical base for educational and extracurricular activities:

  • an assembly hall of the club for 624 seats with a hall and rooms for rehearsals, equipped with modern video and light and sound equipment;
  • a stadium with rubber-coated treadmills;
  • two sports halls (949 sq m and 605 sq m);
  • athletic gymnastics hall, equipped with functional simulators;
  • sports grounds with crossbars, horizontal bars, parallel bars;
  • recreation center "Baryshevo", located in the Leningrad region on the banks of the Vuoksa River, with an area of 0.9 hectares, for 100 seats;
  • a joint museum of the St. Petersburg State University of Civil Aviation, ROSSIYA Airlines and Northern Capital Air Gates LLC with a total area of 500 square meters, with fixed assets of about 20,000 units.

The University has 5 branches: 

  1. Buguruslan Flight School of Civil Aviation named after Hero of the Soviet Union P.F. Eromasov (college);
  2. Vyborg branch;
  3. Krasnoyarsk branch;
  4. Khabarovsk branch;
  5. Yakutsk Aviation Technical School of Civil Aviation (College) named after V.I. Grishukov.

The school year begins on September 1 and ends in accordance with the curriculum of the relevant educational program. The educational process at the university is organized by semesters (autumn and spring), each ends with a test and examination session. The number of study weeks in each semester is determined by the curriculum.
