St. Petersburg State Conservatory named after N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov, St. Petersburg State Concert Hall

The Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory began its activities in 1862 as a music school and to this day is a fairly well-known musical university in the world, the first university of professional music education in Russia.

The main activities of the Conservatory:

• educational activities in the programs of secondary, higher, additional professional and additional education;
• internship and internship of students;
• scientific activity;
• organization and holding of symposia, conferences, seminars, lectures, creative reviews, competitions, festivals, concerts, master classes, creative meetings and evenings;
• staging of performances and performance of concert programs;
• development and publication of educational works;
• preservation and replenishment of library, archival and museum funds, art objects and props of the conservatory.

The Conservatory has 6 faculties:

Since 1991, the Folklore and Ethnographic Center of the Conservatory has been operating on the basis of the Laboratory of Folk Musical Creativity, the main direction of which is the storage, study and use of the fundamental scientific Collection of documentary materials on folklore and ethnography.

The conservatory publishes a quarterly scientific journal Opera musicologica ("Musicological Works"), registered in the scientometric database. The journal comprehensively covers the research activities of domestic and foreign scientists, publishes scientific articles, documents and reviews. 

Students of the Conservatory are active participants in all-Russian and international scientific conferences, competitions of scientific works.

Among the outstanding graduates of the conservatory can be identified the first graduate, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, as well as Dmitri Shostakovich, Sergei Prokofiev, Georgy Sviridov, Evgeny Mravinsky, Mariss Jansons and others.

The Conservatory provides students with the opportunity to stay in two dormitories with the availability of meals. There are also canteens in the academic buildings.

The Conservatory actively participates in the international cultural forum of the city, holds regional, all-Russian, international competitions and festivals, master classes of outstanding musicians in Russia and abroad. Of the most significant projects can be identified the International Competition of Opera Singers, the Review-Competition of Vocalists-Graduates of Musical Universities of Russia and the International Competition of Performers on Wind and Percussion Instruments.

The concert department of the conservatory creates various projects in which teachers, students and graduate students of the university take part, presenting interesting and bright programs at the concert venues of the city.

Currently, the conservatory trains over 1,000 instrumentalists, symphony orchestra and academic choir conductors, vocalists, composers, musicologists, musical theatre directors and choreographers.

On the basis of the university, a employment sector has been created, the purpose of which is to promote employment and organize temporary employment of students in accordance with the specialty received, interaction with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.

In addition, the employment sector carries out the following activities:

• forms a data bank and informs students about vacancies;
• publishes information on employment on the official website of the conservatory;
• interacts with student associations of the conservatory and other youth organizations;
• cooperates with institutions and organizations interested in personnel of the relevant specialty;
• surveys graduate students on employment issues;
• collects and processes information on the predicted and actual employment of graduate students.

Training programs are designed for applicants with secondary general, secondary vocational or higher education.

Admission to the university is carried out on the basis of the results of the Unified State Exam or on the basis of the results of internal entrance tests.
