SPPHPA began its activities in 1876 and to this day is considered one of the most famous universities in Russia. Scientific achievements
The Academy is an advanced scientific and educational complex, which includes the Museum of Applied Arts, a scientific library and educational and production workshops.
The scientific vector of SPPHPA is implemented in experimental design and research works of patent activities of young scientists and teachers of the Academy. The scientific directions that have developed in the Academy are formed on the basis of research and development carried out at the graduating departments. SPGHPA is also actively working on projects in priority areas of socio-economic development of the Russian Federation and in the renovation of historical and architectural structures.
Since 2021, the Academy has been publishing a scientific peer-reviewed journal "TERRA ARTIS. Art and Design", which is a platform for free scientific discourse on the practice, history and theory of fine and decorative arts, architecture and design, art education, restoration of art monuments, as well as on a wide range of related problems of the humanities and natural sciences.

SPPHPA provides accommodation in a dormitory: it is equipped with a library, a room for children, a room for sports, a room for self-preparation and a laundry. Internet access is available in each room. Meals are organized in the educational and laboratory buildings of the Academy (cafe and dining room).

At SPPHPA there is a Museum of Applied Arts, which is located in the historic center of the city. The museum of the XIX century is interesting for its uniqueness, the exposition of objects made of porcelain, ceramics, glass, carved furniture and interiors that move visitors into the atmosphere of the Italian palazzo, the Russian tower and the Renaissance. The museum hosts sightseeing and thematic tours for visitors of all ages.
Every year, international scientific and practical conferences, festivals, international assemblies, All-Russian and student conferences are held within the walls of SPPHPA.
