RSU named after S.A. Yesenin was founded on September 27, 1915 as the Ryazan Women's Teachers' Institute, is the oldest higher educational institution in Ryazan.

The campus consists of three dormitories, the total capacity is 1150 beds. 

The dormitory on Kasimovskoye Highway consists of 2 buildings of 9 floors, 6 blocks on each floor, 4 rooms in the block, a bathroom. The dormitory on Uritsky Street is a corridor type with a capacity of 430 beds.

The scientific activity of the Russian State University named after S.A. Yesenin is carried out on the basis of the Research Institute for Environmental Monitoring and Rational Use of Natural Resources, which includes:

In the Meshchersky Territory - a protected area of the Ryazan region, on the shore of Lake Seleznevskoye, 80 km from Ryazan - there is a sports and recreation center of the Polyanka University. The land plot with an area of 3 hectares is located in the Klepikovsky district and belongs to the university on the right of permanent use.

The academic year begins on September 1 and is divided into two semesters, each ending with a test and examination session in accordance with the curriculum. In the school year, holidays are established with a total duration of at least 7 weeks.
