The educational institution was founded on September 1, 1919 in Moscow and is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. The Institute produces specialists in the field of cinematography, television and other areas of the field of "Culture and Art". Since 2013, VGIK has been one of the most valuable objects of cultural heritage of the peoples of the Russian Federation.

Things to know about

The Institute is the only state film school in the Russian Federation that has its own educational film studio with full technical equipment for the production of films and videos.
For all the time of its existence, VGIK has produced more than 15,000 specialists engaged in film and television production, teaching and management of cultural institutions in more than 80 countries of the world.

Accommodation, meals, prices

VGIK has at its disposal a hostel within Moscow for accommodation of nonresident students, graduate students and assistant trainees. Block-type dormitory, in each block there are two rooms in which 2 people can live. A five-minute walk from the building are chain grocery stores, opposite you can find a copy center. 

  • The cost of living in a dormitory per semester is 600 rubles.

In the main building, a canteen is available for teachers and students with provided places for disabled people and persons with disabilities.

The Institute organizes and participates in a large number of events, for example:

  • Exhibition "50x25";
  • Vernissage of Valery Arkhipov's exhibition "Provincial Stories";
  • Exhibition of Oleg Grosse;
  • Exhibition of the Faculty of Art within the framework of the Children's Regional Arts Festival "April";
  • International Student Festival VGIK.

Facilities and equipment at Russian State Institute of Cinematography of S. A. Gerasimov, VGIK

Educational activities of the university are conducted in one main building. Students are provided with more than 20 workshops and 7 lecture halls with a modern technical base: projectors and screens for the reproduction of cinematography; 4 computer classes, 3 filming pavilions, 6 laboratories, dance, fencing classes and an educational theater. Also, for recreation and study, a working space is organized for students - coworking and a cinema and concert hall. For sports, the university offers students a multifunctional sports hall.
VGIK has a powerful production and technical base, having at its disposal the Educational Film Studio, which consists of 5 pavilions with a total area of 1130 square meters. m. To shoot educational, course and diploma works, students can use the park of filming and lighting equipment, a warehouse of costumes and props, a make-up and post-making base, a workshop of decorative and technical structures and an installation and tinting complex.

Admission dates and extra charges

In VGIK, the academic year is divided into two semesters: autumn and spring. At the end of each of them, an examination session is held, after which students are given holidays (in winter in January, in summer in July and August).

The main expenses of the student are:

  • Payment for accommodation;
  • Food expenses;
  • Leisure and recreation expenses.

Enrolment process

For admission to VGIK, the applicant must provide the following list of documents:

  • Identity document, citizenship;
  • Original / serocopy of the state document on education;
  • Documents confirming the individual achievements of the applicant, the results of which are taken into account at the reception;
  • Medical certificate in the form No. 086-u with preventive vaccinations;
  • A copy of the medical policy;
  • A copy of the military ID or registration certificate;
  • A copy of the TIN.

The package of documents can be provided to the university in several ways:

  • Personally to the admissions office;
  • By mail;
  • In electronic form through the electronic information system of the University (applicant's portal);
  • Using the super service "Admission to the university online".

To date, about 1500 students receive a profession here, more than 500 teachers work.

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

Admission to the university is carried out according to the results of the Unified State Exam:

  • Russian language — 65;
  • Literature — 50.

In addition, the applicant must pass an interview with the commission, after which it is necessary to pass special creative exams that differ from each other depending on the chosen faculty. Minimum scores for entrance tests:

  • Creative Orientation Test – 41;
  • Professional orientation test — 41.

For admission to master's programs, a completed higher education is required.
